Still looking
well, a warranty from even a used car dealer has to cover you for a short while.. even if its only 3 months it gives you a chance to see if there are any immediate quirks with the car. then you have the lemon law protection as well.
going to a private owner you may hear what they want you to hear in many cases.. im a great judge of character, but when i bought my 89' 5.0 i was lied to straight up, and it cost me over a grand on top of the purchase price to get the car in good running order within a month of owning it.. and the guy came off as someone who really cared about his car, etc.. so even the best judge of character can be fooled by a good liar.
when i bought my Lightning i bought it from veracka motors in mass. and they were ok. but i got the previous owners name off the title, did a search online and called him up.. now because he wasnt selling the car to me he had nothing to lie about and nothing to hide. fortunately for me he was an older guy and took great car of the car.. i just bought my ix this week from a used car dealer, and they seemed to be good people that sold high end, high performance vehicles (sort of like veracka). i got the previous owners name and called him up yesterday, left a message so when i hear back from him ill get the real scoop on the car. it seems mint, and butter smooth, but even if there were something wrong i still have the warranty to cover me for quite a while just to be safe. i dont plan on modding this for a while since its a used evo and i want to make sure she is solid and wont need any warranty work before i mod since mitsu isnt so good about upholding their end of the deal on warranties from what ive read.
and btw, i got my ix cheaper than some guys wanted to sell me viii's for.
keep in mind a dealer with a used evo has taken it in on trade.. so search online what average trade in on what ever used evo your looking for is, and figure the dealer probably gave less than that. in many cases they are looking to make close to 5 grand on the deal which is way more than they make on new ones. with my Lightning the previous owner got 20k on his trade in.. and they wouldnt budge off of 25k for me when i bought it. .easy 5g's for them..
