I pretty much caved 2 hours ago and decided I have no choise. I have been trying my best not to spend money, but this is rediculous. Enough is enough. I get a 25% discount at Avis, Enterprise and Hertz thanks to USAA/Army, so I am going to try and get a rental for the next week.

Turco:

Just DLd an app for my iPod Touch over the weekend.... for now it's simply a (free) G meter... you put it in the car and can measure lateral gs as well as acceleration/deceleration. The next rev (which will cost money) will hook up via OBDII and support CANBUS to do live gauges, vehicle diag, MIL toggle, etc. But will also do logging and performance metering. Pretty cool for an iPod app... and for free for now

Thats pretty neat. I wouldn't invest in the logging feature as it probably just logs OBDII protocol which is slow and doesn't provide a ton of data.

yeah.... it just sort of fell out of the sky... what really is cool is that if you have an iphone it will use the GPS and accelerometers to map your throttle/braking zones on a track (i think they have track overlays available, too), as well as cornering Gs... too bad my iPod touch doesn't have a GPS receiver..

see how many parts on it you can break and 'repair' with zip ties before returning it

Zip ties are expensive, i would use trash bag ties. Probably more durable then most of the factory fasteners.

i recommend driving with the "hyperdriving technique". when driving in this fashion the throttle is either ON or OFF. hahaha
