nothing involving forced induction. there is some stuff out there on n/a motors, however, when you have a turbo shoving air in the motor, it changes things quite a bit. on a big chevy motor, you make power by adding overlap up top- think about what a hopped up v8 typically sounds like. that's not necessarily true for a turbo/blown motor.

you'd really need a backpressure gauge, a boost gauge, specs on the cams, and a wideband to tune cam timing without the use of a dyno. even at that, you would still need to tweak on a dyno since nothing really works in practice as it does in principle or ideally.

yeah i think that is one of the problems is that there is like no information on the subject. Yet there is a detailed white paper on the friggin vortex generator (which works without a wing). What they have been doing is logging airflow, if you can max the airflow then the assumption is you have maximized the cam timing. Then it is a matter of timing and fuel. I think it is a pretty good idea and makes sense. I am not sure if it is truly optimizing cam timing though.

nope. the subaru guys make the same mistake. airflow is only a potential of power. you may have high airflow, but you can't support the timing/AFRs to make it work, so by lowering airflow and adjusting the other parameters, you will be better off.

people have also tried to use boost levels as well. if you keep the duty cycle constant, you can see how adjusting the cam timing will affect boost levels. less boost = higher VE of the motor = teh win. again, you may not be able to adjust the other parameters after a certain point. you can see when you have to pull out a lot of timing to keep the car from knocking and that means you've adjusted the cam too far.

can you log cam timing yet or is it just what's programmed? that could also be a problem.......

There is no logging that i am aware of. Everyone is under the assumption what you put in there is it.

I am going to quote you in that thread.

it's the same thing with boost- a lot of people think that if you get boost as early as possible, you will make torque as early as possible. that's not correct in all cases. if you have to retard timing too much to bring on boost sooner, chances are you will be making peak torque later.

you just have to think of the entire system as opposed to one component. having all of the components of the system working well will be better than having one component working really well and others working not so well. it's the whole weakest link of the chain thing....

It all comes with the job title my friend...I know. Have fun with that
We have quarterly returns. So I do this 4 times a year. Makes me angry when I remember ordering something for someone who needed RIGHT AWAY ASAP!!!! And see it sitting there collecting dust 6 months later. So it gets put in my "PORKED" bins. Yes, labeled "PORKED" for the poeple who have porked me with the part. But Volvo regulations state I must hang on to the part for exactly 1 year from the purchase date prior to me doing a return request. And then they decide whether they want it back or not. Avg return is between $25k-$40k on each return. Body shops are the best and worst customers ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
