I woke up this morning at 10:30 thinking it was gonna be a quick easy spin to Northeastern for practice... nope snow. Took me 45 minutes after getting into my car at 10:45... at least 2 spin outs of idiots going way too fast in their cars.
Donuts are fun.. in a fwd car.. I guess its called sliding haha

/me is the pansiest evo driver evar (and f*cking proud of it!)
i don't think donuts are terribly bad for the diffs... they obviously put more strain on them but i think its ok esp in the snow. axis spins on the other hand... thats the quickest way to a broken transfer case! just ask pierre!
(and he got that **** warrantied!) good thing mitsu never saw the vid on youtube haha

mikie, a buddy of mine is thinkin about buying a used 06 wrx. any comments? the 06's are 2.5 sohc right? and added some sort of variable timing? he told me he heard the trannys on the 06's are a lot stronger too. that true?

Your limited slip diffs are always trying to limit the difference in output shaft speeds right? So, tight turns, donuts, and locking up the ebrake all cause the diff to work harder to match output shaft speeds.
this means more wear on clutch-type diffs or loss of the viscous effect in VLSDs (like my car).
Certain vehicles (i believe the STi is included) have warning systems for diff overheats as a result of overuse (abuse)...
I can only assume that while you're doing donuts, all 4 of your wheels are spinning at different speeds putting excess wear on your diffs... maybe I'm wrong...

nope davids i think your right. i just don't think the occasional light drifting/donuts in snow puts a ton of wear and tear on the diffs, especially if you make sure everything is warm first (including the diffs/tranny... not just the engine!). i also think your right that the clutch-type diffs are going to show the most wear. isn't the viscous center diff similar to a torque converter?
i'm leanin towards purchasing the 4runner atm...

I guess, but donuts are so much fun. I didnt really think of the fact that all the wheels are turning at different speeds.
Paul, i miss you too. I still think you should consider an automatic as a daily driver. Anyway if you do want it i think 2k is a good price.
So Lost is on Thursday's now. So we need to not have meets on that night

the 06's have a 2.5l motor similar to the STi with a smaller turbo and different cams, though. they do have AVCS (variable valve timing).
the trannies are different than the previous years because the final drive is completely different. a lot of people put 20g turbos on them since the td04 is way too small. i think that's when the trannies start to become questionable, though.
give me a call later if you want to talk about it. or tell him to send me an email at gmail (same email address as my screenname).
it kind of really depends on what he's going to do and/or modify with it.
well at least I would like to think of them as donuts... cause i couldn't afford an evo.
I make do with what I have I guess.Anyone know where to get GM Synchromesh for cheap? I need to do a tranny flush... Also my trunk key/mechanism is stuck... Gotta go lube the back end of my car up
