It is a nice addition to the living room. Now its BlueRay time...that will be the next purchase. And when you guys take a night to come up here for some bar hopping, you can check it out. Its 10x better now that its setup at my house. I hate trying to compare pic quality at stores where 10 HD's are hooked up to one feed. gay.

Looking at the TVs in the store made me angry. They have a ****ty signal, split to a million friggin TVs, all of the settings are all over the place. Sooooo annoying.

I bought the DVE DVD so I should be able to calibrate mine later tonight. If you want to use it, you are more than welcome to it.

As an aside, I can no longer access the forums from my PC at work. I can access them from my UNIX box, though. Do you think I got IP blocked?

DVE DVD...I will have to search that, but yeah that would be cool...i will check it next trip down. I was nervous at first when getting the tv, as the quality was all shi++y because of that weak feed source. You would think they would be able to have some sort of converter or amplifier that could enhance the signal to each display when only having one feed. Especially when their main goal is to ultimately sell high def.

when you stop trying to think rationally, the world is much easier to accept

DVE is the digital video essentials disc. it goes through a whole bunch of tests to see all of the colors, contrast, etc correctly to give you the best picture (i guess best is subjective, but closest to a known standard). i'm curious to see how things will look when it's done.

Hey everyone...did you all make it home alright last night? Not too many crazy, disappointed drunkards on the roads?

Despite the result of the game, Kate and I had fun hanging out with you guys and we're looking forward to the meet this week. Any ideas?

Also, what do you guys think about a March trip to NY/NJ to see Matt's band play and to visit New York City or Atlantic City? Or, just hang out with the Jersey guys.

Wouldn't this be highly dependent on your source device? For instance, if you adjust your panel to perform best from your DVD player, wouldn't it be off then for your TV or game source?

I'd think, for panel settings, your best bet would be a calibration image direct from the TV, maybe via an SD car or other removable media...

I dunno...maybe it's just my role in V&V and modeling activites, but I can't imagine "calibrating" a device by using a source that is uncalibrated/not able to be calibrated.

Plus, I thought you said your eyes weren't as tuned up as your ears...

i have an HD DVD drive for the Xbox, the DVD drive in the Xbox, and two other DVD players- an older Integra and a Panasonic. I plan on performing the calibration with all 4 devices and then using a weighted average to determine the ultimate settings. I will weight each device based on the relative amount of time I use it compared to the other ones.

and that's why they call him crazymikie. I look forward to seeing it...you'll have to let me know how consistent, or how inconsistent, the performance is across the different devices. I'm very curious to know the differences...

i may try two different players just to see. now you got me curious as well. i am guessing 99% of the time, i'll use the HD drive for the XBOX since it will upconvert as opposed to anything else I own. I keep the Panasonic DVD player around only because it can play MP3 cds and the Integra is a 5 disc changer someone gave me which I never used yet, but it was an amazing player in its day. I am guessing the XBOX will work just as well if not better now, though.

How is Thursday night for a meet? I think Wednesday is bad for me.

Anyone have any suggestions for venue? I was kinda thinking Mexican since we haven't done that in a while.
