Before using Mitsu's special tools, I would have said to leave it all alone. Heck, even the timing belt looked pretty good for 60K in New England. But with that tensioner tool, life is much easier, even for a newb.

But honestly, for the price, it's such cheap insurance. I have read about people's compression fittings on the water pumps blowing out prematurely, but otherwise, I really can't imagine too much going wrong with the water pump. Still...you're doing all the labor anyway...and there's less chance of a catastrophic failure (unless I'm tightening your tensioner bolt ).

I've had pulleys go in my other Mitsu (bearings in them, actually) and I don't think I even put 60K on that thing so to me it's some peace of mind.

Everything I replaced came in the kit and it was $338, shipped. I also bought new plugs.

The kit had:

Timing belt
Balance Belt
Tbelt tension pulley
Tbelt idler pulley
Bbelt tension pulley
Water pump

The Tbelt Idler pulley was a severe pain in the *** to get to, you had to remove the power steering pump and bracket....but, for me, better now than in 10k miles!

In that case, PM me when you're ready. Any newb deserves a little help on this project....but it will be 10x easier if you're not replacing any pulleys.

Will do, I might go ahead and order the other parts that Russel suggested to have on hand when i need to do them down the line... Thanks for the offer, I'm a newb when it comes to maintenence.. If you bring a bicycle I'll give you a full tune up on that though haha.

Marshall i want to play with your car some more, get that NLTS working so you better make it tonight.

Yeah so back to the timing belt thing. If i had to do it i think i would do the waterpump but skip the pullys.

Probably a reasonable compromise...if your water pump goes via an exploding compression cap, you'll need new timing parts anyway. A pulley failure would manifest itself slowly, without really breaking anything. You'd have plenty of time to replace the culprit while retaining your other timing system components.

Good thing you have like 23907527 miles until you have to figure it out!
