Affording the Jersey!!!!:>(

Well, I'm lucky to be in the south! I cannot believe the housing market and the amount of property tax you guys pay up there!!

Long story short the wife, kids, and I may be transferring to NJ, but even though ..long term it makes sense.. 7 years+.. I just don't know if I can do it. To buy a house 60% of the size we have now is 500k, that floors me, plus property tax . We're still thinking about it......and I do love the idea of being close to NYC, mountains, beach etc. like I said down the road this the better financial decision plus we'll get to see more of this great nation.

What o you guys do just live in "older" homes, live house poor, or what?

It depends on where in NJ you want to live. Either north, central or south.

Do you want to live in a condo or townhouse or do you want a house?

what are your taxes if i may ask. here in cook county (chicago burbs) i pay about$4500 on a $350000 house a year. my brother in law pays about $12000 in taxes and he lives about 60 miles farther from chicago than i do in a different county. the elections are upon us and i'm all for social programs but my vote is for the guy or girl that can lower taxes and help the economy.

We need to be within a 30 min. commute to Avenel. I have 4 kids hence the need for 4 bedrooms. My wife is flying up there in two weeks to go to the site and peruse the area.

Considering I'm in the south my house is 3100sq/ft living, tax is 2800$/yr, a major downgrade is in order....oh it cost less than $250k. We're open, but would like to have a cap of $450k.

I live in Central NJ (Monmouth County) which unless has changed is one of the most expensive counties to live in, in the entire U.S.

mainly due to vast farm land and location

my mom was looking for a town house...in this area they can cost $200-$300k easily

she moved to Tennessee bought a single story two bedroom/two bathroom home for $145k

I live in a late 60's home that has an addition and a fully finished basement...compared to what they build here it looks like a shoe box

however I actually have a yard and separation from my neighbors

same here... ours is a joke when compared to some of the other homes ive seen But you do have the best of everything, beaches, mountains, farms, forests. I just read an article today on yahoo in fact that housing prices are projected to go down even more... Just do a lot of searching and you will find the right place

it is costly to live in NJ but depends where. see if you can find a house out of forclosure that's for sale. it will save you a lot of money. now is the time to buy and get a mortgage. mortgage rates haven't been this low since WWII. If you find a house let me know. I work for a mortgage company. a bank, nationwide direct lender.

I used to live in Howell(Monmouth County) with a Freehold address, don't ask, anyway, property tax was part of the problem, the other issue was water. My water bill was crazy.

My buddy lives North and his property tax for a 2 family is close to 17K.

We've decided that if this doesn't include a 20% salary increase we will not be moving. It would be fun to live there, at least I think it would be, but to lower our standard of living that much........can't do it.

We'll see flying out there soon.

I love NJ - but the tax/future toll/ real estate/insurance cost thing is out of control...If I could move to somewhere like north carolina making the money I am now (or more), I'd do it in a heartbeat.
