BS Speeding ticket in New York
The officer in question told me flat out that there would be no points involved in the ticket. I think the out of state plate (No front) and my car is what prompted him to give me a ticket in the first place. Connecticut and New York aren't getting along well these days (for one we won't turn on the Long Island Sound underwater power line to give LI/NYC extra power without the Supreme Court ruling we have to). Worst case scenario I will use the officer's unprofessional comments and incorrect license plate on my ticket to have it dismissed or lowered to the speed I was doing! Not to mention in the nine years driving I do not even have a parking ticket let along anything worse!
Thanks for the tip on radar receipt and moving the date several times.

FYI: Refer to http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmvfaqs.htm#tickets under the question "If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license?"
OK, so that doesn't apply directly to your problem, but perhaps Connecticut can provide similar information.

I just got nailed with 8 points on my license for a speeding ticket with laser.. the cop almost always does a deposition now, he provides all information including any comments you may make to him. I had a witness with me, and the cop LIED about the circumstances and I still lost.. There's something seriously corrupt with suffolk county. My witness didnt exactly provide a moving testimony that adequately corrolated my story and contridict his deposition. BRING A LAWYER if you got a ticket for any speeding ticket.. And bring a witness if they were there.. and make sure the person can recall the facts and be consistent without sounding coached. I NEARLY got my license suspended, but because I haven't gotten a ticket in 10 years, I got the "Warning" which is 8 points.. However Its the insurance that I"m concerned about. Sadly I don't drive wrecklessly nor do I speed very often (what I mean by speeding is exceeding the rate of traffic by an unsafe measure.. since its unlikely you'd get a speeding ticket if your travelling with traffic unless you somehow drew attention to yourself)
And about the points from a different state.. It depends on the state.. most of the northeast is computerized and if you get a moving violation, its likely you'd see those points.

Oddly enough I've gotten 4 tickets and they never transferred points for ANY of them despite two being in the tri-state area (CT).
yycools, yes CT is tri-state despite it being considered New England. It's NY, NJ, CT.
The tailgating (my sincere thanks to a nice officer who clocked me at 90 in a 65 and gave me a tailgating ticket for $79 instead of a $300+ speeding ticket) was in CT and I never saw points for it, and the second was stupidly enough around the same spot for 85 ina 65 and cost $279. Both tickets should have carried points. Neither made it to my license or insurance company. Hope for the best as far as points, but do be prepared and follow the advise given if you're going to appear. Get a traffic lawyer.

i was wondering when you get pulled over there supposed to get your registration and proof of insurance right? Cuz I got a ticket and he just took my licsence and wrote the ticket right there next to the car. For all he knew i could have a stolen vehicle.

if you have a Ct license you need not worry about getting points- CT doesn't use a points system!! I have received 4 speeding tickets in NY
in the past 18 months, but since I have a Ct license it doesn't carry over. You wont win ANY ticket in NY nowadays, your best bet is to pay the fine. It would be cheaper than getting a lawyer. Your only other chance to get away without paying is if the officer doesn't show up

I just got a speeding ticket in New York for the first time...so i don't know what to do!!! The cop pulled me over for going 71 in 50 mile zone. I'm not even sure if i was goin that fast.
Is there a way for me to get out of this ticket?
He didn't show me any deposition or evidence that proved that I was speeding. Also, I didn't sign anything on the ticket (not sure if I'm suppose to or not). The cop just took my registration/liscense and came back and gave me the ticket and left.
Lastly, I can't even read the darn thing. I can't even make out the officer's name.
I want to plead not guilty but I don't know what I can do to get out of this ticket. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASSSSE HELP ME!

best thing is to get a lawyer and have him talk it down.... ask for failure to obey an officer.... tell him you don't want the points.... and yes points are tranferable from connecting states... nj-ny ny-ct......
Connecticut and New York both belong to the
Nonresident Violator Compact of 1977. This means that
the traffic ticket will transfer back to your home state
and be treated just as if you received the speeding ticket in CT.
CT does not have a point system but the ticket will show on your record and your insurance company will assess insurance points.
This can mean a drastic jump in your insurance premiums for three years depending on your prior record.
From DMV website:
Note: Insurance companies have point systems different from the DMV driver violation point system. The two point systems have no connection. Contact your insurance company about their point system."
"Worst case scenario I will use the officer's unprofessional comments and incorrect license plate on my ticket to have it dismissed or lowered to the speed I was doing!"
Wasting your breath.
Your best bet is to contact the clerk of court and ask if they will accept a CT traffic school certificate and not report the ticket.
If not then it will pay you to retain an attorney.

FYI... I had my case and it was thrown out due to the unprofessional comments in regards towards legitimate questions that may be asked within reason towards every officer at a routine speeding stop (i.e. calibration, where it was pointed, etc etc).
I hate to grab the tagline from Mastercard, but the look on the officer's case when it was thrown out was:
PRICELESS.
Also my insurance company also mentioned the points wouldn't carry over from NY anyways. You sound informed but why am I getting so many mixed signals on that! If a violation is serious enough it may transfer over, but not a simple speeding ticket.

Congradulations. Usually in traffic court you are guilty until you are found guilty.

What normally happens is that a violation that would result in suspension of your license does go on your record and your home state suspends your license. Every state is different. For example NY does not enter points from another state but will from certain provinces in Canada. Go figure!
