Connecticut Emissions Question
Connecticut Emissions Question
Never been through it, let alone with my EVO. I understand they do an ODB test:

...and that should be a piece of cake.
But this visual inspection scares me:

As does the possibility of them needing to use a tailpipe sensor-probe test on my AWD vehicle:

Can someone clarify the process they went through with their EVO? thx.

I plan to run a resonated test pipe....that's basically why I am worried...but even with that, I can run the mechanical or software CEL fix...I'm more worried about if they stick a sensor in my tailpipe or do a visual check. If they just do ODB I think I'd be ok.
In CT they DO NOT do a tail sniffer UNLESS you fail the obd2 portion of emissions.
You can go there with 280 cams and a Buschur Racing exhaust (freaken loud) and as long as your car has gone through the "ready cycle" of the obd2 with no check engine light it doesn't matter.
You also could probably get away with no cat.....since they don't visually inspect under the car...........because you would have a check engine code without a cat........and they don't know what a cel fix is at a emissions station........BUT......its a big risk because if they did look that is a huge fine.
To be safe just put a cat on the car for the test as Tim said.
My car is in my sig. and here is what I have to do to pass.
Pull AEM and put stock ecu back.
Put stock injectors back in.
Change to different air filter and pipe with MAF sensor plugged back in.
Put EGR valve back and remove block off plate.
Switch aem air sensor back to stock one.
Drive for about 50 miles so all readyness tests are performed with no check engine light and go through inspection.
Its a pain but built cars take a little work...and its only every 2 years anyway.
^ Good to know. I haven't had to bring in the Evo yet but I've always been a bit nervous. I was under the impression that they could also fail you if you had an aftermarket exhaust? When I went to the DMV last year to have a "no front plate" citation rectified, the man performing the inspection told me that it was illegal to run any kind of aftermarket exhaust in CT. Now I'm running a cat with pretty much the quietest 3" exhaust out there (Fujitsubo), hell it's even painted flat-black, but I'm still worried. Would you mind PMing me where you went for inspection?

Even if you fail the ODB2 plug in .. they WON'T hook it up to the sniffer. It must pass being plugged in.
Also, they WILL look under the car for a catalytic converter. My 1g passed the sniff test and I thought I was in the clear until the brat looked under the car.

my car failed....they hooked up the sniffer and the 0bd2...i have 280 cams...i havent had a check engien light recently...should i try to get back with a cat on again ? any ideas ?
I usually take my cars to a Midas in Bloomfield on Tunxis Ave. You can take yours anywhere. I haven't had to get the Evo tested yet. Not until next September. My testpipe looks like a cat and AFAIK, they don't use a sniffer on Obd-2 vehicles. They do however look under the car or under the hood for the cat.
