finally got a pic:

It goes E16-48. Its not the greatest picture since I took it with my Blackberry but either way its on the underside of the muffler, so if you look underneath your car it should be around the middle of the muffler but it might be hard to see because mine blended in with the exhaust until I wiped around the muffler with a rag.

Thanks dude. I had no problem what-so-ever with city cops. Staties for some reasons found my LED's amusing and decided to pick on it. Oh wells. Thanks for your input though. I do appreciate your concern.

But in the past 2 months I've been pulled over 4 times. One ticket for doing 51 in a 50...I'm going to court for that on Friday. I consider myself lucky because I have been running a buschur with a test pipe yet not ONE cop has said anything about my exhaust. Then again I've been let off with a warning to every time save for the 51 in a 50. Thank God for a military I.D. and getting pulled over in uniform.

I hope it works out for you man, pretty weak that he gave you so much crap for no reason. I'm glad I stay out of the bigger citys. might also help that I run wingles. Something about the wing is just a cop magnet. Best of luck bro!
Dude, your lucky just for having a military ID! Good luck Friday, I still cant believe he gave you a ticket for doing 51 in a 50 mph. I'd be pissed as well.

I finally took my car out since the road was dry after so long and I get busted for something dumb. Oh gosh.

Thanks for the pics man. Imma take a look at it tomorrow and take some pics as well.

I scheduled an appointment with Mitsubishi Dealership in Danvers, MA (best service/parts guys ever) to have them check out my exhaust and have them give me some documents stating that it's STOCK. They were cool with it and told me to bring it in on Thursday.

No sweat at all.

Hopefully all goes well. I can't believe they pulled you over because I've driven by some staties on the highway and my exhaust is loud and they didn't even pull me over. He must have had a bad day or something.

check your state laws regarding exhaust.

I was recently pulled over and ticketed in my town for having a "loud exhaust". The LEO even said "the only reason you guys put these mufflers on the car is to annoy the public, there aren't any performance advantages at all".

Did some research and found out that you can't just pull someone over because they "think" (key word there) and exhaust is loud. There needs to be accurate testing done by a qualified officer in order to be legal.

Went to court with this info in hand and got the case dismissed in a matter of minutes. Here is a thread I started asking for help, you'll have to ignore the OT BS...

Here's the MA law:

No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

well i believe there is a lupole in that law i remeber reading that u can only alter you exhaust if your intent is to not make it louder but it cannot exceed 95 decibles or something like that

Here's the whole thing from the Massachusetts General Laws:

Chapter 90: Section 16. Offensive or illegal operation of motor vehicles

Section 16. No person shall operate a motor vehicle, nor shall any owner of such vehicle permit it to be operated, in or over any way, public or private, whether laid out under authority of law or otherwise, which motor vehicles are prohibited from using, provided notice of such prohibition is conspicuously posted at the entrance to such way. No person shall operate a motor vehicle, nor shall any owner of such vehicle permit it to be operated upon any way, except fire department and fire patrol apparatus, unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler to prevent excessive or unnecessary noise, which muffler is in good working order and in constant operation, and complies with such minimum standards for construction and performance as the registrar may prescribe. No person shall use a muffler cut-out or by-pass. No person operating a motor vehicle shall sound a bell, horn or other device, nor in any manner operate such motor vehicle so as to make a harsh, objectionable or unreasonable noise, nor permit to escape from such vehicle smoke or pollutants in such amounts or at such levels as may violate motor vehicle air pollution control regulations adopted under the provisions of chapter one hundred and eleven. No siren shall be mounted upon any motor vehicle except fire apparatus, ambulances, vehicles used in official line of duty by any member of the police or fire fighting forces of the commonwealth or any agency or political subdivision thereof, and vehicles owned by call fire fighters or by persons with police powers and operated in official line of duty, unless authorized by the registrar. No person shall use on or in connection with any motor vehicle a spot light, so called, the rays from which shine more than two feet above the road at a distance of thirty feet from the vehicle, except that such a spot light may be used for the purpose of reading signs, and as an auxiliary light in cases of necessity when the other lights required by law fail to operate.

No person, except a duly authorized person driving an emergency fire vehicle, shall operate a motor vehicle equipped with metal studded tires upon a public way between May the first and November the first; provided, however, the registrar may authorize the use of such tires before November the first, if weather conditions require the use thereof. Whoever violates the provisions of this paragraph shall be punished by a fine of not more than fift

MA has no DB limits, it just can't exceed the OEM exhaust noise. (Ie its subjective, makes it very difficult to technically use an aftermarket exhaust.) IMO about calling supervisor, you might be in the right legally, but I would be very careful messing with the police officer. As a teen my friend and were harassed by the police one night. His mother wrote a letter and was able to get an apology, however his family was targeted by this cop and his cop friends.

Thanks for the info dude. I just realized that this po-po didn't check my dB level and assumed that it was aftermarket and it was loud.

Yeah dude, I saw this on the Mass. State Laws website. I printed it out and put a copy in my "upcoming hearing/court folder". haha.

After the 1hr wait, they gave me a receipt-type document stating:

"CHECK TO SEE IF EXHAUST IS FACTORY
C/S JUST GOT A TICKET FOR EXHAUST BEEN TOO LOUD
INSPECTED EXHAUST SYSTEM AND
FOUND ALL EXHAUST COMPONENTS ARE FACTORY PARTS"

As for the LED's I threw them back on. It's not even blue so I was like whatever. Shoot, the Lexus IS250/350 are blue. Mine is just freaking white (great product). I'm going to bring up this subject as well and educate these old skool po-po about LED's.

Do you have a link for those plate LED's? I've been meaning to get some but I haven't gotten around to finding the link for who sells them.

next time something like that happens when he walks back to the patrol vehicle call the state police and request a supervisor on scene. when he gets back to the car request to speak with a supervisor, they will most likely always say none is available.... chances are no supervisor will make it out to your incident.

the next step is to go to whatever troop gave you the ticket and request to speak with that officers supervisor or any desk supervisor. explain your situation, provide your proof. weather it be physical or documented further more if you have a witness bring him/her or them too.

generally it will all get resolved and if you treated the trooper/officer with respect they will admit they were wrong and MIGHT***** thats a long shot but they MIIIIIIIIIGHT even verbally apologize.

if you know for a FACT beyond any reasonable doubt that it is a stock exhaust, and they refuse to undocmuent that ticket, you request a ccs1 or a cc1 i forget the exact accronim but it stands for citizens complaint service form. you document in that department you complaint against the officer. they will give you a file number, folow up, once the report is written go down to the department's records division and get a copy of the written report. bring it with you to court along with any proof/facts/images/documents that support your argument and you should be good to go.

if it is IN FACT a stock exhaust you should be fine. just always be respectful and polite, dress well, not necessarily shirt & tie. but shirt and dress pants FITTED nothing baggy. pay attention to how the supervisor that you will speak to intruduces him/her self if it is a sgt or a liutenant adress them as such with respect and they will take you seroiusly and pay attention. MOST OF THE TIME at least.

good luck

You are also allowed to request the officer's notes taken at the time of the incident. He should have written documentation as to his exact reasoning for pulling you over. Might give a little incite to help your case out.
You could always just hope the cop doesn't show up, automatic win then.

* Massachusetts Uniform Citation *

Violation: Loud/excessive exhaust

Reason for citation: I'm a ****

Sucks to hear about that. I've never had a problem with that garbage before. I've even been pulled over in my s/c IS with aftermarket exhaust, which was loud as bawls and never got a ticket for it. Looks like you'll be golden with that documentation. Good luck none the less.
