May be buying a house in Connecticut ? need input
Hi guys. Currently I live in Brooklyn, Ny, but im looking to finally buy a house either in NJ or Connecticut.
Can you guys recommend areas in CT that are safe, affordable, close to metro north, and are within 1 hour away from the NYC ? Im looking at $350k house.
thx

youll find 350k houses but on the smaller side

also the insurance rate is cheap because of the area

I'm right up 287N from Montville in Kinnelon and concur it's a great place to live. Wayne off 23 has a huge train station and driving into the city is 35m without traffic and usually an hour with traffic. Plenty of homes in the 300-400k range. Taxes are lower in Morris County than surrounding. In NJ, insurance is the downside. BYOB nearly everywhere will offset the higher ins costs
CT's nice for income tax laws but cost of living is high and construction is taxed to offset lack of income tax. CT puts you in the middle of nowhere - NJ puts you between NYC, Philly, Pocono (raceway) many tuners and the shore which is sand in NJ and rocks in CT, RI. NJ has etown, NJMP and can get you to most major highway systems in short time.
I was raised as a NY'er with an NJ stigma. Married a Jersey girl who moved me out here and I doubt I'll move eastbound.

thx guys for your inputs. I really appreciate.
Yeh. I was just approved for a mortgage. The Credit Union I went with, only has license for NY, NJ, PA, so it looks like CT is out , and NJ is in !
I will look in those areas you guys mentioned. Thx

im currently checking secaucus NJ... 350k you can get a decent place unless you have older kids, then expect to pay 400+ for the room. commute by train or bus into manhattan is 20 minutes or less. tax isnt too bad for NJ either
