or if you dont mind a 45 min train ride, then look at rahway or linden... theres some decent homes for low 300k

stratford ct, its about an 1hr 20min train ride into the city. born and raised in stratford. never had any issues

IMO, Danbury, CT is the closest you can get to NYC in CT with sane housing prices. If you go south to Greenwich, most of Stamford, and especially New Canaan, the prices are ridiculous.
From Danbury you can drive 15mins to the brewster metro north station (or less depending on where in Danbury) or you could take the Danbury train to Stamford and transfer that way.
