they want my SS & checking account number to 'confirm' my account and release the rest. thats BS. I used a credit card (which requires the same info) to set that account up. I don't feel I should have to provide them with anything in order to get MY money especially when they can't guarantee the security of the info they want me to provide. In other words they are trying to extort my personal info in exchange for my money.

You can upgrade your account and wouldn't have the issue. Two things about this: 1. Its safe. Paypal tracks your normal usage and if it's not normal, they verifiy for your protection. 2. When you sign for the free account, you agree to the terms, which I'm sure you all read thoroughly. I've never had issues with paypal.

FYI paypal isn't FDIC insured - your money is really not safe compared to a fully insured bank.
