I have the same plan and feeling about the weather.

Quote: Big dog? my sisters great swiss mountain dog is a year old, and already walks a bit stiff.
he's just like the great swiss mountain dog but with a ton more hair. he's a bernese mountain dog. the femoral head isn't even remotely close to the socket and his left side isn't too hot either. the vet seems to think that replacing the right may be all we need to do.

he basically bears little weight on his hind legs and sometime won't eat because it's too much standing.

I have mixed feelings about vets. I've always felt they pull on peoples heart strings when it comes to their pets by 'sometimes' suggest unnecessary and often expensive procedures.

I have a $1k limit on my pets. Once their cumulative medical expenses exceed $1k I let nature and the process of natural selection take its course. I'm thinking of adopting the same philosophy for my kids...

you aren't alone. My wife and I know a couple, they're DINK's (double income no kids), who spent WELL OVER $10k on their dog for cancer treatments, therapy and believe it or not a dog shrink! The dog's quality of life its last couple years while going thru all this was horrible and she eventually died in her sleep. I understand the attachment with pets and all, but a fellow has to draw the line at some point. My line just happens to be @ $1,000.01.

That's nuts. I dog sat for someone whose dog ate a bag of potpouri(SP?) shortly before they brought it over to me. They knew but failed to tell me. It processed most of it fine, but had some bad klingons.
