Pruven Performance- a Horror Story
It's disappointing that a post on this sites will elicit ten pieces of childish flaming for one thoughtful response. But I'll be satisfied with that. I don't have to prove anything. Yes, it's true that CT law requires a written estimate too. But I took it on trust that I wasn't going to get ripped off. Lawyers, too, can be too trusting at times.
And yes, it is possible I'm just another working stiff who doesn't have 100K to throw out on a 996. (Or as Dan said to me, "what, you're renting a car? Why, I have six cars." Well, everybody isn't that lucky, Dan.)
I'd like to hear too what Tristar suggested- Dan's response. How the installation of a simple turbo kit (that people across the country are installing with no problems - including kids in their own garages) comes to $8 grand, even with some snags here and there. And why he'd let a customer sit for four months without a car, and then bring in Big Al and try to figure out how to hold up the guy. The car that gets "broken into". Stonewalling the Attorney General. The fine from the DMV. Let's hear it.

Hey Postdarwin I am greatful for your post. Don't listen to half the people on here. On pretty much everything you post half the time you'll get people that all they want to do is burn you. Guys fricken grow up, you have no idea if he's lying or not. If he is then he's a **** if not he's giving us good info. We have one of the most elite cars in the world how about you don't try to flame everything else or turn into most SRT-4 owners, thinking your on top of the world and no one can touch you.

DRAG, they make kits for the supposed infamous D16 series civic motors, And i was not bashing your rsx, my friend got one, if your still having problems i ll be more than willing to give you a written..estimate on the total cost of parts and install. And i do, understand it, i guess the automatic defensive system i have kicked in earlier, being a vendor myself, i replied that way because if it was me(me meaning dan) i would prolly curse you off...but i apologize to the whole forum for my actions and posts.

I want to set the record straight on this Cobb guy and his claims realtive to me.
First - I personally had NOTHING to do with his RSX car job or any of the work on his car in any manner shape or form. I do not work on RSX's - I wont touch an RSX and I have no financial or other interest in Mr. Cobb's matter.
Second - I do not work at Pruven Performance - I rent dyno time there to tune cars and I am a customer of Pruven also. I have known Dan at Pruven to be a very honest and thoughtful person and I am proud to be rent dyno time there and I am proud as a customer there. Dan works long hard hours at his shop and I hev seen him bend over backwards on many occassions to help go the extra mile to help make a client happy.
Third - the letters I sent this Cobb guy were AS ATTORNEY for and on behalf of Pruven. I was asked by Pruven to communicate with this guy for them as he was so irrational, rude, hostile and vulgar they could no longer handle him and also becuase I guess he was an Attorney himself and he was making legal threats. I attempted - on a volunteer basis - to help the parties come to an amicable resolution but Mr. Cobb was completely unreasonable.
Fourth - as to the merrits of Mr. Cobb's claims - Pruven will have no comment at this time as this matter is now in litigation.

I want to thank those on this site who have voiced their support and concern for the truth in this matter. Guys in CT who want to hear the "official story" could contact Steve Hennessey, Esq. in the CT Attorney General's office, Dept of Auto Repair Complaints. He has indicated to me that the AG would file an unfair trade practices complaint against Pruven if there is evidence of repeated misconduct. Accordingly, those out there who have had problems with Pruven should be encouraged to talk to him.
As to "Big Al" Friedman, he's obviously marching to Pruven's tune--and he's hiding behind legalese. The matter is not in litigation, although it shortly may be. He did nothing- absolutely nothing- to settle this matter--rather he threatened me, refused to permit me to speak with Dan any longer and demanded payment of an invoice, produced out of thin air, eight times larger than their quote. Who out there wouldn't be infuriated? In fact, I made a settlement offer that "Al" first accepted and then rejected. Why? Because they thought (in Al's own words) I had "big bucks" and they had me over a barrel-once they had my car, almost brand new. I note, by the way, that apparently at least one person on this site has already referred to Al's own checkered history.
As is often said, sunlight can be the best disinfectant. I will keep you guys posted on any major developments. One lesson already learned (again, I'm too trusting) is that these tuning shops are often so loosely regulated they can get away with murder- you're totally dependent upon personal integrity rather than any real legal remedy.
And just so you guys don't think I am a constant complainer--since my Pruven disaster I've dealt with two repair and performance shops in CT who have been terrific-ethical, fair, competent, responsive. It's like night and day, and gives me hope for the industry--just like with law, there are bad lawyers and good ones...

Postdarwin, so you come to these forums to find other victims of Pruven to aid in your complaint filings from AG???? Try using the search function. I have yet to read any negative stories about Pruven. Yours was the first.
Some of you guys need to grow up...
I'm shocked at the repsonses from some of you guys...? STiKiller, how old are you...? You are a vendor...?
I personally am not high on Pruven, not becuase they ever wronged me, but becuase their customer service and callback SUCKS...
Oh yeah, and we're still waiting on that 12.4 @ 110 timeslip...
As far as the original topic...? i don't trust anyone... i hope you get everything straightened out, if it is going as you say... if it is true, i for one, will never spend a dime with them... cause that's about as ****in low as you can get... holding someones car and threatening to auction it off...

The guy asserts many of the problems with his "kit" in this post:
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...threadid=84087
What if YOU were the one who had to follow up an all the missing parts and try and put the kit together from a box with missing parts and no directions.
What would you do if after working so hard on the guy's car to make everything perfect he told he he didn't have to pay for the job becuase he was a powerful lawyer ???
Would you give the guy his car for free - eat a loss - and then send him a nice letter asking him to pay you for the job?
What would you do in that situation ? What is YOUR advice?

Spending hours after hours of dyno and diagnostic time to discover the reasons why the customer supplied turbo kit was not working. What it after all that effort you dicovered that a "black box" supplied by the turbo kit manufacturer was defective and you had to install a different device. What if after all of that work the kit fit perfectly - worked 100% perfectly and put out the right amount of power and then you find out that the customer refuses to pay for the time spent to do what he asked you to do.
