Keeping Evo in NY, NY
Northern NJ or Queens is almost definitely the way to go. I'll warn you though, commuting really blows sometimes (especially in the summer). Shop around for apartments, check out places. Actually, depending upon what you're looking for you may wanna check out Bogota or Hackensack as well. Hackensack's a little more urban than the places mentioned (except for Jersey City), but then again I'm not totally certain what you're looking for. Bogota is right across the Hackensack River (very small river) from Hackensack and it's a lot more suburban. A bunch of my friends rented a WHOLE 2 family house there for $2,400 a month so I'd imagine you could find yourself a pretty decent apartment or a floor of a 2-family for a decent price. Good luck with whatever you decide, and hope the new job works out well for you.
There is also a couple of bus park/rides around the Lincoln Tunnel. One is off rte 3 in North Bergen and the other is on the NJ turnpike at the Vince Lomardi service area. Cost for parking & rond trip bus ticket is $7.00. In the morning there is a special bus lane which bypasses the traffic. If you work in midtown, this can't be beat. The traffic by the ferry can be horrible and the lots fill up quick, but its the better choice for downtown.

you can find apartments in NJ farther away ..say clifton or secaucus..( I lived in secaucus for 2 years .. one bedroom 900 square feet ..one parking space ... but also a big visitor lot where I parked my other car..)
You can then drive to weehawken or edgewater and park for like 6$ and take the ferry in for another 10$ round trip I think ..that's another alternative.
You can also find reasonable houses if you look hard enough ... with the interest rates so low nowadays ... for an 1800$ mortgage payment (that's including taxes and all) you can find a decent house.. trust me. I live in Kearny.. small town near Newark ... very quiet ..and I'm about 8 miles from the city.

On Boulevard East?

That area is horrible. I've lived there and comuting to NYC was a *****. Hmm - Bergenline

With no traffic (at night for example) it's 15mins, but with morning traffic it's 45mins - 1.30h. Depending on how much cars/busses got stuck in the tunnel. But 45mins was always minimum. Ferry was always better but I didn't want to pay for it.
If I ever had to move back to northern NJ id would be Jersey City, one of the nice new apartment buildings...
Yah right QUEENS with a freakin evo.. I hope you don't have any mods on it cuz then it's gunna be chop chop time for the local thieves. Just stay in Kentucky is my advice. If your gunna move here with not that great a salary you'll wind up losing.

yeah if you arent getting at least a salary of 55-60K on up then stay in KY..
if you are.. live in New Jersey and take the train to Manhattan!... tons and tons of professional people do it.. Including me... and they have benzes and lexuses and (lancers lol) with a houses / apartments in Jersey.
NYC ' s public transportation system is THE best in the US!... trains come about every 2minutes so you wont be late 4 work... thats all of it in a nut shell!
p.s i 4got to mention you wont like Jersey car insurance rates.. Welcome to the Northeast!!

But if you are to work in Manhattan, Id say live in NJ and keep your insurance in Kentucky trust me its probably alot cheaper.

Hey, thanks for the advice.
I won't be moving up there anymore but won't be staying here either.
I love NYC and visited there bunch of times. I was born and raised in a big city and going back to a bigger city makes me feel that I belong there. NYC has a very distinct and powerful energy and love that.

The older I get, the less I appreciate noise, smell, pollution and not being able to park my puppy for free :P
I also prefer to buy stuff in bulk and the average package you can find in Manhattan is going to be for a single person.
I remember I used to drive to Jersey (I didn't like going to Queens because it's even harder to park there) to buy huge packs of detergent etc
Move to Hoboken, NJ. Rent has come down considerably in the last few years and it is possible to get a place with a parking spot. Rent for a one bedroom apartment in Hoboken will run anywhere from 900- 1500/month . Another plus is that Manhattan is only a 10min. train ride from Hoboken. Check it out.
