I have a small rip in my outer DS cv boot that is slinging grease. I tried to seal it with RTV before the RTA event, but it didn't work too well. Should I just replace the CV boot, re-pack it with grease and be done or get a whole new axle?

Advanced Auto has the axle for $89.00 and the boot kit is only $13.xx. I'mma have to pull the axle to do either, so it would make sense to replace the whole axle since the CV joint is probably slightly compramised now that its been driven around for a little while without enough grease in there. Have any of you done the replacement boot deal? If so how did it go?? What say PCD??

I did my DS front axle with AutoZone unit a couple of weeks ago after Trackdaze. Better off doing the whole unit with a lifetime warranty.

I've only done replacement boot back in my Honda days. Worked fine. Are the axles OEM rebuilt pieces from Advance? I know an OEM axle is $400.

How old is the axle?

I've never done either myself, but for that price I would probably just replace the whole thing.

I know the driver J Foley that was involved in that Pikes Peak crash. That video is making me sick. Dude is a good guy, I hope he makes a full recovery. Driver and passenger are lucky to be alive.

Looked like he came into turn way to hot and front tires just pushed, now I know why I like autox so much. I know Foley from last year at Nationals, he was in BSP.

it looks like the ones from Advanced/autozone are all reman'd. They do have a limited lifetime warranty, but that won't do me much good if it fails on my @ WGI or Monti. My only worry with the reman'd units is their overall quality...

I think we swapped boots on my axle, one boot had a tear. Now the other side has a slight spooge coming out of it last time I looked.

On another note I drove my car to work and came back home with no problems.

Thai, my brakes are squeeking a little on slow speed stops. You know why, cause I listened to you and did not properly grease those pads up, metal on metal is annoying.

i've replace many boosts before, it's very messy. have to remove the bearing from the shaft to slide the new boot on. if you haven't put much miles on it since it broke and there's still some grease in there, then it should still be fine.

the autozone/advance auto are rebuilt oem, so you have to give them your core. those rebuilt one are hit and miss, some only last a year or so, but they do have life time warranty. i've had rebuilt one that makes noise instantly and had to exchange for different one.

I think what I'm gonna do is buy a reman'd one and also fix the boot on mines and take it with to track days as a spare for a couple events to make sure this new one is up to snuff. If it can make it thru Monti without failing then it should be good to go.

Why carry extra parts?
Because racecar.

^ reman one requires core, so it'll cost more if you don't give them yours.

that kid that chu was going to buy the engine from is parting out an evo 9 with 36k miles, i think he had axles when i was there sunday. he's not that far from you.
