We will take the car to the next level, which would mean a pretty comprehensive re-build even if the car was undamaged.
Cause for the crash itself? I can rule out driver error. A big Hp Supra in the previous session left the track at the same place and magnetized itself to the wall, Darrin co-owner of RTR was the ONLY driver to stop during that session and help a fellow driver out. I doubt Darrin thought he'd be in the same boat later that day.
Turn five you go wide and ride over some additional concrete off the side of the track, by the time you hit the concrete you are close to being straight without too much load on the Right hand side of the car, when pushing you do run over a smidge of grass, you just touch it, flicking up dust and from there you are back on the track. The thing is the track was covered in oil, oil eater, sand and sawdust right at that point from all the previous engines, gearboxes and diff spraying themselves all over the track.
I've not been to an event in my life with as many red and red/yellow striped flags as this years WTAC 2013. You could put it down to Time Attack Cars being so very highly strung and right on the limit of everything within a car, plus the added pressure of it being a very hot and dry day. Sydney right now are in the grip of some nasty bushfires, while we were up their they had already lost 200 homes.
The air at the track was full of the smell of bushfire smoke. Hot, dry and smokey. Not exactly what you'd pick for weather conditions at a race track. Visibility around the track was poor on Thursday's practise sessions. Friday, the day of our crash was clear, although you could still smell it in the air.
I've gotta say, tyres were an issue too. Yokohama were the control tyre, so in the clubsprint class, the control tyre was the new Yokohama AD08R and the size was restricted with 4WD cars to a 265 in width. Let me say this right now, the yokohama's are no where near as good as the Hankook Ventus RS3 for grip. I spoke to close to a dozen teams in our class, with all bar one (funnily enough one of their sponsors was ADAVN) all said the same thing. The yoko's are quiet when pushed, they give no idication on when they have reached their limit of adheasion, and they lack the outright grip of other tyres we have used in the past.
So, the reason for the crash was a combination of what was on the track with all the oil and sand etc and the tyres IMO. Although, I'm a realist so I know tyres might not have stopped our accident, but then again they might of. We will never know I guess. Lets just hope that next year there isn't a control tyre so the tyre choice of what we want to run is entirely up to us. Could you imagine if an event like World Time Attack was sponsored by Nexen or Matador?
Anyway, onwards and upwards.

I forgot to turn the boost up, bro
I'm only running 20.1221 psi
I have an exhaust leak
I kept missing 3rd, 4th and 5th gears
I couldn't get a clean lap with all the traffic behind me
There was debris on the racing line
I was on my cool-down/warm-up lap
I'm still feeling the car out
I wasn't racing
I'm only out there for the experience
The course is setup for 5 speed trans, not 6 speed
Tires too cold
Boost was turned down
Not used to following racing line
Didn't spike the gas tank
Mad Boost leaks
I'm hungover
I have explosive diarrhea
my tires pressure gauge was messed up
the sun was in my eyes
the wind was blowing the wrong way
too many bugs on the windshield
too much gas in the tank
forgot to drain windshield washer fluid to save weight
humidity to high for stock turbo
not enough grease in the muffler bearing
Steering wheel Off center
Steering wheel out of balance

Lol. More excuse than me. Track too dirty, track too hot and greasy, tires not enough grip. Not drivers fault for pushing car over the limit and track condition.
Rain caused me to crash.
If other cars are on track and you the only one that crashed without mechanical failure, dat be driver errors.
