well, i am not even sure where to start with this whole thing. i am glad everyone is okay, and i hope that everyone got where they needed to get safely. for the record, i am not in charge of any of this EVER again. on a sidenote, i finished the drive solo, lincoln city to newport, newport to corvalis, corvalis to beaverton. way to much driving.

The guy in the WRX was lucky, he slid up along the embankment and narrowly missed a telephone pole. As it turned out, he was okay and his car is somewhat fixable. Other casualties include a broken down DSM and a MR’s blown head gasket.

on a side note, i counted about 53 cars at the first turn off. i think we picked up a couple on the drive.

That's impossible.

be kind, the wrx looks like an "off", not a straight crash.

An off? Try this. Fly off the road doing 80mph and hit an embankment. Trash your front end, break an axle, and blow out your suspension. After you have accomplished that, call your insurance company and tell them you had an “off”. Report your findings here.

like i said before, that guy was lucky he wasnt badly hurt. he couldnt have missed that pole by much.

I would also like to say sorry for all of the confusion leaving the cheese factory. Many people decided at that point to head back, and when those of us continuing started leaving it added confusion of who was going where. I'd like to get together with some of the seattle people in the next month or so and go drive around looking for a good place up north. As we're doing more of these it is giving us the opportunity to work out the details, please don't lose heart because we had a few set-backs.

Some options that have been strongly suggested are speed-limits for the group, or making it a 'show' only type run.

^ i agree. we have had three of these and 2 of them have ahd a crash of some sort. that isnt the track record that we are looking for. getting that many cars together puts alot of pressure on drivers to push their cars to the limit and or beyond. everyone thinks they are a better driver than the guy that crashed but that isnt neccesarily true. i was the second car, and a "off" couldve happened to anyone at anypoint in the first 6 or so cars. although i never felt like i pushed the car beyond my personal limits, someone, maybe more than a few people did. that is a tough situation. i love going on these things, and look forward to them tons. i am not a big fan on the "cruise" but that is personal thing.

imho- for the record- we did have an accident, but the situation couldve been much worse. i am not interested in if YOU thought the road was a bad choice due to the gravel, rain, or anything else. I never expected anyone to drive at any set speed, and I refuse to take responsibility for the mistakes that did happen. I told everyone before we started that that wasnt the goal here. at anytime you could find an area to pull over and let cars by you, to get with a slower moving group. I didnt outdrive my personal skills, and expected nothing else from everyone involved. if you are uncomfortable with any route chosen, before hand or during, STAY HOME! mostly our cars are AWD for a reason, if you come to poke holes and annoy the people involved in organizing these just stay home. apparently it is safer.

JOSH
ps- this isnt just relavent to the drivers that had problems.

Yeah I hear you. It sounds like these small get-togethers have outgrown the informal, drive-through-the-countryside status and might need a bit more organization and planning. I would probably be stressed/disheartened with organizing them as well. I commend you on the job you've done thus far, and I for one am grateful for the effort and spirit you put forth. The first run with the pizza was a blast. The second one was fun as well up until the time my intercooler hose let go. I wish I could have gone on this one as well. I think you should be proud of yourself.

I wonder if some savvy people could step forward with some ideas to successful, stress-free (and of course, off-free) fun-runs. People having "offs" isn't really something that should happen on on public roads. There must be a way to have these and also insure safety and fun for everyone. It would be a shame for the fun-runs to fade away.
