I actually had a chance to compare my tires with the 275 RA-1's. You should be fine on clearance as long as you have those spacers and smaller front springs. I finally got around to installing my longer wheels studs the other day, it really wasn't too bad.

It's fun to prove people wrong when they say it won't fit.... Let me know how you like those once you get those wheels/tires on. On the spacers, where did you buy them and are they hub-centric? I was only able to find some generic ones for the time being.

I wish I had my car back together for the suspension day, but I'm still waiting for my JIC's to be returned for the leaky shocks.

I spent all Friday on the phone to make sure my new wheels & tires will make it to Seattle in time, and everything should be here on Wed - so I can get them mounted before picking up Robi Wed night at the airport.

I settled on Work Emotion CR in 18x9.5 +38, with Toyo T1-R tires in 275/35/18. Most of the places I called always asked "for what car" and when I said Evo they responded "will never fit, you are crazy", so I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I see them actually on the car! I also got H&R spacers in 5 and 15 mm to play with too (just in case).

Thanks for the encouragment . The spacers are H&R (DRS). They are hub centric, and I got them from www.speedwaremotorsports.com. They are fairly pricey ($204 for both sets), but are balanced / forged aluminum, and come with longer wheel studs.

Hm, I guess I could try to put them in tomorrow. Speedware just called to tell me they are in the store now. I've not tried this kind of install before, but am willing to give it a shot. Or we could make sure everything fits together first using the shorter stock studs, and I can change the studs myself on the weekend after you leave. Are the longer studs required for the install Thu? Let me know what you think.

Thanks - that's really nice of you . I might take you up on that if I run into problems. I just took a look at what's involved, and it doesn't look too complicated: take off the wheel, take off the caliper / dust shield / rotor, tap out the studs, put in new ones, pull them in tight with an open nut/washer, reassemble.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how the brake dust shield comes off, is it just the two bolts that also hold the calipers? Also, anybody have a manual and / or know what the torque spec for the caliper bolts is? I'll give this a try after I pick up the spacers tomorrow morning.

The bolts holding the caliper on are 80 lb ft. Before you take off the caliper/rotor you will need to undo the castle nut (160 lb ft). You will also need to take out the 4 17mm bolts holding the hub on from behind (65 lb ft), then you can pull off the whole assembly to tap out the studs. I took off my dust shields a while back and just left them off. I think it's just two bolts or might have to do something extra, can't remember now.

Grrrr.... If there's one thing for sure it's that things never work the first time. The fools at Speedware ordered the wrong spacers! I test fitted them this morning, and no go. Called H&R, and sure enough it was the wrong part number. So now I won't get the right set until Wed afternoon, and at that point I'm hesitant to work on the car since I need it to pick up wheels, tires, and Robert from the airport.

Hey Robert, you feel like doing the studs Wed night after you get in? We won't be able to go to PINA, but I have a big garage with decent tools (impact wrench, etc.) too. Since the car has less than 6k miles on it, hopefully the studs won't be that hard to get off - what say you?

Otherwise, we can just fit everything with the stock studs on Thu, put the stock wheels back on afterwards, and I'll do it over the following weekend.

Wheels are here (they're freakin huge )! Tires are in too, and should be mounted in another hour. I'm going to have to make two trips to get them back to my garage... nucking futs!

Says who? ALL shops order something wrong sometimes. Speedware has always made customer service a priority. Speedware works on I would say 80% imports and over 1/2 of those are over 100k cars. So they had to order new ones and I am sure they did so right away. Speedware customers have extremely high end cars and are booked in advance. If all they did was order the wrong spacers, is that something to be really grumpy about? Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. I understand your frustration but if you have to wait a few more days to get everything right it is well worth it in the end.

If you want to talk about bad Customer Service talk about Stage in kirkland. They ordered the wrong part for my EVO and then proceeded to charge me a 20% restocking of the item. The part was not compatible and i asked them to make sure it was before it was ordered. They didn't and then told me it was my fault. What a joke.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions about Speedware. I made mine a couple years ago when I went in to have some camber plates installed. They installed the hats backwards so I ended with 3 degrees of positive camber rather than negative. Caster was terrible too.

The bad part was that they insisted things were fine and showed me the alignment sheet with hand written values. I insisted that they redo the install. When I got it back, they had so much rear toe-in that my tires rubbed. I took it to Omni to get a proper alignment.

As I said, everyone has their own opinions.
