Well I made the drive from Colorado to Anchorage back in 06 and it was summer time so I would say it was different. As for the snow, well right now at this exact time, its freaking snowing here in Anchorage and the snow flakes are huge. Its been snowing all morning. I have a buddy up in Fairbanks and he said that there is quite a bit of snow. My other buddy also said that he tried to drive up there in his truck and the snow was so bad that he had to turn around. If your driving up in your EVO, I recommend taking the fairy from Washington to Alaska then driving up that way. It will save you wear and tear on your car and also be alot safer for you since the weather is just getting more Alaskan by the minute.

Nah man, I don't know of any of the ferry companies. All I know is that there is a ferry that you can take from Washington to Alaska. I know that it takes three days and it is recommended to all the military that is PCS'ing to Alaska. If your in the military, I am sure that transportation should have some info for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe someone else on this forum might have some more info.
Do any of you guys do any sort of suspension set ups to make your car handle better in the snow/ice? What advice do you guys have for me to fully prepare my evo for being up there. Thanks guys, I'm a bit nervous lol

what really matters is having the right tires and common sense.

So I take it no one is interested in the parts I have for sale? I recieved no replys for any of them. Remember they are all brand new still in the box and have never been put on the car. Also I am wondering if anyone here might have bought my car? It was sold at Anchorage Chrystler Dodge, Silver 06 EVO IX w/ SS package.
Snow tires? My choice was the bridgestone blizzaks, studdless winter tire. A lot of sidewall flex but the snow/ ice performance is worth it. They accelerate and stop on ice as well as studded tires but you don't have to worry about studs ripping out when drifting on frozen pavement! Hankooks are nice as well if you're into studs.
I lived in fairbanks for a couple years going to college. Have your tires filled with nitrogen/argon so the pressure doesn't fluctuate. Nothing worse than waking up to 30 below zero and frozen flat spots on the tires- takes like 2-3 miles of clunking until they warm up and turn round!
Never heard of a block heater for an Evo??(could be wrong) I looked all around and ended up putting heater pads on the oil pan, transmission, and battery. After ripping around don't set the E-brake when you park- cable will freeze and sometimes takes a bit to release. Make sure your cooling system is good for 50 below zero, and your washer fluid has antifreeze additive.
As for the ferry check the schedule here http://www.akms.com/ferry/
You can jump on at washington or at haines on your way through canada. Ferry would definetly save the car from road salts.
Good luck

Man, I wouldn't drive my Evo up the ALCAN at all. I just made that drive and it sucked in my Outlander. The roads are horrible (dips, rocks, potholes) and not to mention they're packed in snow.
I just got to Anchorage on Wednesday and I already am looking for winter tires. I thought I wouldn't need them, as I have driven with my current tires (Ecsta AST) on the snow, but up here they act totally different.
I'm definately gonna need them lol
Havent seen any other Evos out, but a bunch of WRXs and a couple STi's.

Funny Scott! no actual snowplow mounted if that's what you meant. but seen some busted bumpers from plowing into snow berms. I'm lowered and so far so good. *knocks on wood*
