Yellow EVO8 in Ballard
Our price for EVO's is right in line with everyone else here on our zone. We put ourselves in the mid-range of the $5-12,000 adjustments dealers are making. If you're a serious EVO buyer, we'll do everything we can to make sure you're completely satisfied with the deal you make on one. RALLY RULES!
I highly doubt you'll sell to anyone on this forum with that markup. And validating your stance by leaning on the other dealers that are price gauging doesn't make you any better either.
Sorry ghostrider - didn't mean to offend anyone's sensibilities, but I don't feel ashamed about selling anything for a profit - the more rare and desirable a thing is, the more it is worth - it's axiomatic. That's why a round of golf in Japan is $1,000 and here it's $40. Cars get singled out from all the other products we buy for scrutiny as to cost, price, etc.. How many of us ask at a restaurant how much they paid for the food we're eating, and how they justify marking it up as much as they do? I'd like to live in a different kind of economy/society too, but we got what we got -

Oh Please - your giving two horrible examples.
First, in case you didn't know - Japan is an island nation. That makes land 1000 times more valuable than it is here in the U.S. The land that a golf course in Japan uses could house a few thousand people - that is why it costs so much to have a course in Japan.
Second - the resturant. Your example here is also flawed. The MSRP on the car is already set. The proper example is - You see an ad on TV for steak dinner for two for $12.99. So you and your girl decide to go get the deal. When you get their they tell you the price is $19.99 - because 'that is what the other places around this area charge'.
The WA dealers need to realize a few things:
1) The economy sucks right now.
2) It's just a car
3) It's just a mitsubishi - it aint a freaking Ferrari
I have never paid as high as MSRP on a new car. I don't expect to with the Evo. I can wait. And based on the dealers around here, I am probably going to buy it out of state - since the dealers around here are only concerned about profit, and not customer relationships.
Or, I'll buy an STi for $30,995. Since I know I CAN buy that for MSRP. Enjoy the price gouging while you can...

wow - further apologies are in order i suppose. i just started out to answer a question. it's usually not until offers are made that negotiations ensue and agreements are met, and i can't accomplish that here. i didn't come to the board with selling anyone a car as a primary motive, but i did mention that we have one here, and thereby (perhaps mistakenly) invited the price question in. my purpose was to check out what the enthusiast community had to say about the car itself - not to discuss economics. i work for a very fair and reputable dealership that's very customer service intensive - we sell cars at very slim margins all of the time, and still manage to treat customers with genuine care and respect, no matter what they buy or how much they pay. driving, enjoying, and being happy about your ride is all that matters at the end of the day.
HUGE $$
(actually, a little less than we'd hoped, but not much) It was still more than msrp, but not as much as some dealers are asking and getting) Our next 3-4 cars will be black, blue, and silver, and will probably go for more. Like most of the forum members here, I too will have to wait a year or more before they fit into my beer budget. Our new customer is from Everett, and is loving the car, in spite of impatiently making his way through break-in.
