I'm thinking of spending $200 on an old 80's toyota pickup for daily driver. Though if I slapped a full turbo kit and concealed the intercooler, that would be pretty fun to torment Corvettes in.

Wait a second here. I dont see how the Subi is even close to the same performance dollar for dollar. I bought my car, brand new, for 28k. STi would have cost 35k. From the factory floor the Evo runs faster in the 1/4 and, with the same trained driver, runs faster around the track (PIR). Then, for only 1k, which includes the tune, I can get cams installed with a full custom flash. I dont even want to talk about the cost of putting cams into the STi. Its insane!! No surprise though, since you basically have to pull the motor to get them in.

So where did I miss the equation train here? I dont think I have ever seen anyone that really believes you can get more power out of the Subbi for less money.

They actually seemed semi-well behaved at first, before it descended into a WRX vs STI thread...

I love both cars. I could have bought the STI, but I realize now that I would have regretted it. I don't mind a stark interior and harsher ride

you do know that this (EVO>STI) means that the EVO is the better one, right?

I wish I had both and an M3. Or I could trade all three of those and get the new Porsche GT3.

amazingly enough, neither car would be here today if it wasnt for the other.

in a sense, they created each other through rallying. too bad mitsu is nearly bankrupt and they dropped rally altogether... especially when the x-games is picking up rally-x as an event.

look, its always 'one car is better than another' - 'sti gurls are fat'.. 'my evoVIII your sti'... that crap doesnt bother me. its a car. both are beautiful and designed with complete performance in mind.

you cant ever compare stock for stock because nobody EVER leaves their suby/mitsu completely stock... I have yet to find one that has stayed stock for more than a month or two.

Now what should be compared is power VS. money ratio in the upgrade department. how much money does 500 whp cost for an evo VIII or IX? What would it take to make reliable power, drivetrain, clutch, engine, suspension and all other aspects when you get there?

... and finally, who here actually drive's their car the way it should? Who has gone to a racing event outside of a drag race? Who has won?

i know a man named oliver S... he owns Works rally/mitsu and his cars consistantly kick ace... - now how much would it take to get an STi to that caliber? ... Well me and Oliver are going to find out in the next year or so...
