<In best Johnny Carson voice> I did not know that.

I guess I never noticed that it did that. Oh well, I always shut mine off anyway if I'm really doing something where I wanted all the power available.

I wish mine did. If I want to get going I always have to click the AC off. Otherwise it bogs bigtime. How did you get yours to do that?

Not the stock ECU. Vishnu did a few dyno runs on an '03 EVO with A/C on and off, and it sucked up 25whp . They posted a dyno graph around 2 years ago showing there results.

I was gonna say i did some good 3-4 pulls on Monday and with the temps in the 100+ i would have noticed if the a/c got cut off.

jj. may be it does on stock ecu, when I had my AEM tuned, they told me it shuts off on evo for that reason, to reduce power loss. Also on the last run, when it was 90+ outside, I run AC most of the time ON and noticed lower coolant temp by 4C=10 or so F. I have defi gauges, so its quite accurate. 90C running withot AC 85-86C with AC on. Any ideas on why is that?

That doesn't make sense, running a/c should make the temp rise. It is common knowledge in the past, if your car was overheating, put it on full blast heat. The a/c compressor runs, the evaporator tries like heck to remove the heat, in the end it puts more heat into the engine bay.

I wonder how to get the ECU to turn off a/c at WOT? I asked Al, but there was no comment.

js06evoix: I see your location as Vancouver, how the heck did you get the Evo registered? That's my fear when I move back home to Canada.. have to sell this Evo

As I am thinking, it could be because the AC fan kicks in and put more air through the radiator? If you have anything but factory temp gauge, please check for yourself and report findings. It would be interesting to confirm.

(about Factory gauge-- It will show nothing until the temp is about 60C, but it is so slow to react that even if the temp increases by 10-15Degrees it wont move untill it will already cools down. If you ever have another temp gauge hooked up, you will see how decieving factory gauge is)

Temp shoudln't rise because there are 2 fans to counteract that happening. AC doesn't shut off at WOT that's why when I want to accelerate fast I turn it off for the duration which sucks. If there was a way to make it kick off at WOT it would be awesome. I don't know how people can't feel how bogged down their car gets with the AC on during acceleration to the point they think it kicks off...

I hate running the A/C. Not just because of the power loss (which just bugs me) but the low/rough idle as well. Doesn't help my already crappy fuel economy either. I'm more a windows down guy anyways
