I'm curious to see if them bringing the evo here helped their financial situation at all.

i'll tell ya what, it didn't help my financial situation at all......

what's that mean for us evo owners, we just gonna get fooked or what?

what if we need work done or something, i guess we'd just take it to independent shops then, right?

I can't imagine that bringing the evo here helped them that much. figure in the span of the 3 years it's been here, they have maybe sold 7-9k units, when toyota and honda sell that many accords/camrys in a month.
the big positive that I can see coming from the evo would be all the people that went to drive one, and walked off the lot with a lancer or a new eclipse.
I wouldn't think that there is a whole lot of profit in the cars once you boat them over here vs. an eclipse/lancer made in the us.
I do think that there is some government deal that says when a car maker is done with a model, they have to support parts/supplies for "x" time frame. not sure on this but I thought I remember reading something on this about 10 years ago..

That is all personal speculation. I want proof.

The way I see it it, how could the Evo NOT be profitable? Sure they've only sold a handful of them but the car is pre-existing rally technology (the 4G63 has been around since what, 1988?) thrown into an econo-sedan that sells for $12k new without the goodies. The technology is some of the best in the world of it's kind but it's been around for a while. It's definitely worth the money as far as I'm concerned and they have to be making good $$$ on every single Evo sold.

Then again, nobody's better at losing money than Mitsu so who knows

do you really think that mitsu just "threw" the 4g63 into the lancer? diff engine, trans, transfer case, sheetmetal on part of the exterior, suspension, brakes, seats, electrical, ecu, etc... the 2 cars are based loosely on each other, but are completely different. all those parts on the evo, brembo/recaro/momo/yokohama don't come for free. mitsu is paying for those parts. I don't doubt for a second that the evo is some of the best performance for the $$, as I am on my second(a 9), but if there were a ton of profit, then mitsu would have already dropped the pricing or offered more incentives to sell them, thereby increasing profit. they are a "niche" car that mitsu was able to bring over to sell a few thousand a year and make a few $$ on, but more importantly, get press and people on the lots. I would be willing to bet that toyota makes the same $$ on a loaded camry, and how many of those go out the door every month compared to the evo?

I already do that because I don't trust any of the dealers around here.
