Jackhole tried to steal my evo last night

So some jackhole walked up into my driveway, busted my driver's side window, jumped in my car and beat the crap out of my steering column trying to hotwire the evo. Of course I was home sleeping soundly next to my apparently retired watch dog.

Total damage, $800, of which insurance will be paying 0 with my nice $1k deductable.

The asshat apparently didn't realize you can't steal new cars that have keys coded to a shut off switch. I always knew criminals were less than intelligent, but this is really ridiculous. Trying to steal something you literally can't steal without a towtruck.

But he did get away with a nike watch and my owners manual (?wtf?), so if you see anyone trying to sell a 2006 Evo owners manual, please let me know, i'd be very interested in speaking with them.

Also, anyone know if $240 for a driver's side window is right? That's what they're quoting me wholesale.

Thanks for any advice.

That sucks man. The thief will get his in the end... 240 sounds right for the window installed. I work at a dealership and the glass guy quoted me 200 for a new windshield installed.

No alarm...putting one on when I get the car back, i know they're easy to disarm, but just a couple of seconds should do the trick in terms of waking me up.

Mitsubishi told me they couldn't get a key made without the car being there ...is this not true?

Yes, because the computer that does it is portable. However, the way to get the key programmed is not a standard way, I've seen it done, and not even I can remember the steps (they are really funky believe me). So, unless they are a mitsu tech, I don't believe they can get a key programmed on your car. I haven't heard of a way around.

However, mine did get stolen out from my carport, so I guess anything is possible.

No, I didn't have an alarm.
