First mods?
I would say from a drivability aspect:
1. Lower intercooler pipe
2. Flash
3. Exhaust
Dont waste money on a drop in, hack the lid and be done with it. If you are going to do something for a normal filter the Buschur, Apex'i, and Injen seem to work well. Stay away from the HKS, and K&N. Depending on where you live and how the emissions are there (I dont have any here) I would say go with the very least a Turboback and High flow cat. I run a full TBE and no cat.
Suspension-
1. Rear sway bar (25mm+, I run a 27mm)
2. good springs matched to the stock struts OR Coilovers
3. Better tires
Brakes-
1. Pads
2. Cooling
3. Rotors
The list could go on and on, but thats probably the top 3 in each of the main areas to start with at least.

Yeah on the pads part, pads for sure, I bought new ones the very next day after track time. I also picked up a rear sway bar too, too much push at all speeds
Hey John, I still haven't seen the stock flash in my Email, did you send it? It might of got routed to junk, but I kept watching for it... please send again if you can to gtisrule@msn.com thanks
Still loving the flash!

I run the Perrin TBE. Love the sound, and it sticks out the rear bumper a bit. That way the bumper doesn't get burned. And stay away from the K&N intake. I have one on my car, but had to modify it to work. And also stay away from the Tein springs. They will blow your struts.
You should figure out what you are going to do with the car in the long run. Are you going to drag it? Auto X? Lapping days? Daily driver or 2nd car? Figuring that out will help you make the right decisions for the basic parts up front.
I.e for suspension, if you aren't tracking seriously then maybe all you need is a good set of springs. If your more serious and want to be able to adjust everything then you might want coilovers and soon on and so forth.

NorthendWRX- I had H&R springs on my WRX and they seemed to work ok. I have the coilovers and sways on my car now and other than some engineering that I dont like, they still perform well.
