For the Evo purists out there, the VI was the last of the true Evos anyway because that was the last one used as a true base for a WRC car.

um, its stuff like this coming out of people's mouths that gets us nowhere.
... what if you can put in a 4g63 to replace the new 4 cylinder mivec engine?
... what if the tuning envelope on the new engine is much higher than the 4g. You dont even know what kind of engine it is, the compression ratio, the limits on the stock block, etc etc etc... dont be so quick to jump to conclusions just because the last 6 evo's are the same engine (albiet rotated around during late models), the same chassis layout (4wd, 4dr), etc...
Look at Nissan for example - in order to cut costs, and maintain excellent customer support and cheap pearts, they went with a common engine design that all their cars can use - the new skyline has walked away from the RB series, and now it uses a universial series in the VQ series that has withstood some insane power levels.
The Evolution needed a revamp. From an 'outsider's view,' the current models look great, but they all look the same to the eye of 'joe schmoe'.
The new evoX is ugly, really ugly, but in a Resident Evil 'Nemesis' sort of ugly - it looks mean, it looks WAY better than the new hatchback STi, and it has a much higher performance rating... (watch the movie over again and see what I'm talkinga bout) - I'm getting one. I'll wait til the prices drop - retail price just to have dibs just isnt my thing.

Well the IX only was rated 10hp over the XIII but time and time again it will put down 20+whp more that 8's. But I agree I could care less. They are fugly and heavy and I will await to see how this engine works out. May turn out to be very good but for some reason I doubt it.

. This was my point at the end of the day though those manufacturer numbers don't mean squat. The Evo was using that 276 number since like what? The VI, V or VI I forget when. Anyway, if that number was accurate then Mitsubishi must know how to make the most efficient 4WD drive-train since the power loss just doesn't add up
.
Yea I was tired last night and for some reason it didn't look right but I left it...from now on I will just use the number 8
Good catch
