Portland Area E70 in 2 weeks.

Since I have done so many E85 switches lately thought it was best to let you guys know we are getting E70 in about 2 weeks.

When I was ordering my E98 today i was talking with my Bio fuel rep and he let me know.

For those who are tuned on it dropping the boost down to 20-22psi should make it plenty safe and if we are in the mid to low 10s afr we should be fine. If its dipping off the charts I will make a free E70 map for those cars I have done on E85. Really will be nice though to help with our cold morning starts.

If you guys are true die hards I can mix a 85 blend for you out of 92oct and sell if for $3 a gal buy the drum.

Yes he does. The 255hp means a walbro high pressure pump and not the standard walbro 255.

It is more expensive in terms of the cost of fuel to run E85/E70 right? Cheaper gas but less gas mileage?

I believe even though you get worse gas mileage, it is still cheaper to run e85 due to the fact that e85 down here is 2.35/gal and 92 oct is like 3.40/gal.

From my experience the only drawback of running e85 is the availability, which in a year or two probably wont be a problem.

E85 was $2.70 two days ago. Since you need about 15-25% more fuel do the math for pricing. I am getting 160-180 miles to a tank 13 gallons fill up.

It really depends on the station, I was filling up at olsen brothers on 99 for 2.69 a gallon but just recently found a place on 82nd which has it for 2.45

I just did some simple calculations while being super productive at work.

E85:
1 gallon = $2.75
1 Tank = 13 gallons
1 tank = $35.75
miles per tank = 170
1,000 miles = 5.88 tanks
Cost of 1,000 miles = $210

92 Octane
1 gallon = $3.35
1 Tank = 13 gallons
1 tank = $43.55
miles per tank = 260 (for me usually)
1,000 miles = 3.85 tanks
Cost of 1,000 miles = $168

So overall it looks like E85 is about 15% more expensive to run. Of course these figures are dependent on several variables.

Lucas,

You should think about offering an E85 conversion package if you dont already. Something like fuel pump, injectors, and tune for one price.

You tuned my car before on pump gas and it runs great. I have been thinking about making the switch. I can probably excuse the additional cost of fuel as I will be helping the environment.

Is this fuel ok to run in autocross events? Are there any issues with sustained high speed driving as opposed to cars that run strictly in the quarter mile?

You should get more than 13mpg on e85. I saw 220 miles on a tank of e85 in my 2g dsm a couple of times and even 230 once. Normally it was around 190-200, and I beleive the tanks are the same size.

From my experience it might be 0-5% more expensive to run. For me it was almost the same since e85 is 2.35 down here.

I was just basing those numbers on what someone else had said. At 190-200 is even less expensive.

So were you originally using E85 and have since switched back to normal pump gas? If so why did you switch back?

Is the best list of gas stations that have E85 located at www.e85fuel.com ?
