Large group of speeders nabbed
Police stopped a convoy of speeding cars in Cosmopolis Saturday, shortly after noon.
“We got 15 stopped,” said Deputy Tim Laur of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office. “We missed a couple.”
Laur clocked the fastest car at 91 mph near the truck scales east of Montesano on Highway 12. He attempted to make a stop, but his department-issued pickup was unable to catch up to the convoy.
“The governor kicks in early on that thing so I couldn’t keep up,” Laur said.
He radioed ahead for assistance and Trooper Matt Rabe of the Washington State Patrol made the stop after the cars passed him in Cosmopolis.
As Laur, Rabe and other officers from the Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol and Aberdeen Police Department issued tickets, the drivers congregated by the side of the highway. Their vehicles, an assortment of domestic and import vehicles, were parked in a long line along the shoulder. Most of the cars appeared to have been modified to enhance performance.
“We saw the police needed help so we decided to pull over because we have extra tools,” quipped one of those pulled over.
All of the drivers were from Pierce County in the Spanaway area, police said. They said they were headed to Ocean Shores on a day trip, said Trooper Chris Wilson, who assisted in the stop. The drivers also claimed it had been another group of cars that was speeding, yet none of the other officers saw such a group on the road, Wilson said.
Each driver was issued a citation for speeding in excess of 80 mph in a 60 mph zone.

the thing was that we werent going as fast as they claim, once a honda blew its engine we dropped to 65...only 5 over and rolled that way for a while the only time we hit anywhere above that was when we hit 75 only ten over. the thing is that no one got actually registered until we pulled into aberdeen and by then we were all doing the speed limit. the state patrol officer straight up said that no one's speed was registered...just saw a large amount of tuner type cars that someone said were moving fast.
