What does everyone think about an 8200rpm rev limit?

Lucas tuned my car at the Dift Office this last weekend and the thing runs and feels like a whole new car. I really rung it out on the way work this morning and hit the newly raised rev limiter for the first time.

My question is this. Does everyone feel that moving the limiter to 8000+ rpms is safe?

Thanks.

That was a slight configuration error on my part. I can lower that for you if you like at no charge, but on the stock valvetrain I revved higher than that for a whole season. I personally feel its safe and still have mine set higher, but thats a personal judgement call.

I suppose it all depends on what you have done and the tune. But im willing to guess if Lucas tuned it and set it there then you should be cool.

Yeah, if Lucas or JB did it on purpose, then you should be fine.

Where do you start dropping power at? It's ok to rev that high, but not if you would accelerate faster by shifting sooner

Oh man, not what I wanted to hear. I dont have a cable or anything and I live quite a ways away from you guys. Any advice? If I decide to get a cable how difficult is it to upload the map?

What is your recommendation for rev limit on a totally stock valve train?

BTW - the tune you guys did was fantastic!

^^ lowering the rev limit is a pretty simple process that would take no time for someone who has the cable and the time. With simple mods you should be fine....you probably shift long before 8k on average anyway right? .

yeah just shift sooner, it's not like you're going to be banging off the rev limiter all the time.

Yes, but I dont want to have to pay to much attention to the tach at 100+mph.

So ya I will be careful for a while, til I can get it lowered.

Its probably time for me to get into tuning anyways. Time to order a cable.

It is safe and not really a problem, your power has dropped of quite a bit at that point anyway, if you would like to have it lowered, I can do it for you, so you dont have to drive all the day down to see Luke and Aaron, just let me know if you want to, and we can set up a time!

I'd think all of us with a JB tune are flashed at 8k. Personally, the car pulls just fine and doesn't miss a beat all the way up. If I didn't have an 8k limit I'd have a real hard time down at Portland raceway as I'm constantly in that last 1k RPM. It's just how timing and cornering works out on that track for me. The other 360 days a year, I don't redline before shifting, it's pretty easy actually to control the revs with the right foot.

I was on the stock head with only cams revving out to 8100 so I think you'd be fine for while, just don't do it in every gear.
