hole in hood

hey y'all......

i'm still new to the forrum, so please forgive any ignorance.....

i just got a new (to me) evo se......

the louvers that cover the heat vent in our hoods.....if i removed that to let heat out easier, but then rain came down directly on the exhaust manifold cover thats exposed there.....is that going to kill anything?

What is wrong with a nw guy asking a question in the nw section? There is no need to be rude.

Exactly!

Factory design that piece for a purpose. I wouldn't suggest you to remove it, b/c it's not gonna make bigger difference. the vent redirect the hot air toward windshield and flow with the car while moving. I painted my silver, it serve as a bling factor too.
I personally don't want water to drop directly onto the manifold itself, it just helps it to rust little easier.

Taking it out helps lower underhood temps quite a bit, i suggest to everyone that they should remove it, having it out in the rain is the same as having it in, When the car is moving that vent is not going to stop any water.

I took mine out. I knew that when I did it that it wouldnt help anything and that it might make air flow less but, it looks cleaner in my opinion.

I did it just for the look, but it doesn't hurt anything. It does require engine cleaning more often.

Just don't forget this is Seattle, it rains CRAPLOADS here versus the rest of the country... rest of the world for that matter, exempt UK guys :P

And how is the NW section the 'wrong section' and the thread needs to be locked?

NW section doesn't have quite so many d**ks in it, we don't mind these posts.

If you are in the Seattle area, I highly recommend that you keep it in there, it does block some water, I have water marks on it to prove it. It doesn't look good, it looks like something is missing, that's why RALLIART made their own with their Stencil on it.
As far as dropping the engine bay temp, trust me it's not significant, stock hood already has a vent.
