ORP track day discussion Oregon/Washington

The new road course track southwest of the Dalles is in operation.

Planning a track day March 15th. $200. Novice, intermediate, and Advanced. Coaching for novice. Lunch. A regular car club type operation.

If interested PM me. If we have fifty drivers between among a few forums by the end of the month it will happen.

Would we really need to do the organizing ourselves? Won't they be running their own lapping days, as well as the normal lapping clubs adding them to the schedule?

Anyway, I'm down. The place looks awesome with all the elevation change and twisty-ness. I vote for cheapness, $200-$250. I'm fine with run groups and a set number of sessions. With a pure open track I think I would be too hard on the car and burn too much gas!

Its about the same drive time as Spokane (from settle) but you have new asphalt and what looks like a fun track. Should be great, a dream come true. Although it might be twenty miles to a gas station or motel.(?)

Humm wonder if the Alfa club or BMW club is planning to set a date their. Anyways I would be down to do it. When are you thinking about doing this? I assume nice weather...late spring-early summer?

Unless a lot of people join in we will all be waiting for the clubs. I'm sure the clubs will come along. Porsche, BMW, maybe Audi, IIRC, Speedware.
ORP is a couple of hours from Portland so I don't know how some of the smaller clubs will feel since PIR is right there. Sure ORP will have a feature like PR's Proformance driver school too.

Guess some motor bike clubs are already on the schedule.

We would need 50 or so guys to keep it from being too expensive and from being to traffic-ed. There isn't enough guys here to fill that. And some guys who like being in charge more than driving to hold the fort down. So anyone who likes hanging out and being important join in too.

Definitely interested. As already mentioned, I expect other groups will set up lapping days and we can participate without the headache of doing the organizing. Plus, most of the clubs offer free instruction as part of the deal.

I think it could be sold pretty easy to even the guys that arent circuit guys normally anyway. If it was a track rental and not a driving day they wouldnt necessarily have to take a driver course which had always been a timeframe issue with me previously.

8k / 60 = 133 a head. Not too bad really.

I'm in if you keep it safe. if your doing open track keep the noob's away, your just asking for trouble letting people on who have never had track experience.

Probably just wait for the normal track day groups.

It should be broke up into run groups...much safer like said above. I have seen some bad things happen with inexperienced drivers ruining their cars and very expensive cars in front of them.

OK, lets see if we can come up with 50 drivers. Run 3 groups, with instructors for novice.

My thinking is the sooner we get people confirmed the quicker we can get a date scheduled. Getting 50 drivers may take awhile. Lets see if there are that many people interested, car type isn't important but car safety is, no beaters, nothing that isn't going to pass tech inspection.

Open track is definately not safe. Open track days you'll get a large variety of vehicles signed up, from Ferrari's to Fiats (and even a few motorcycles). The problem with the idea of 'open' is if you have 'fast' cars/drivers on the track with a bunch of slow 'offline' drivers, it can create some very dangerous circumstances. When you're on course with 'experienced' drivers, for the most part, they know the do's and don'ts of race paced driving, when you have a bunch of first timers, competitiveness takes over putting drivers and vehicles at risk.

Even going to a 2 group session would be a better bet. A dozen Evo's on the track with a dozen miatas, I guarantee you someone's going to leave crying.

(Yes, it's a myth about Miata's... They resemble speedbumps to Evo's on a roadtrack as long as you don't include full carbon chassis cars :P .)

^all in the driver.

mostly agree about the open track, i doubt even the track owners would let that happen. guys have been doing it in spokane

I assume (yeah thats bad) that you'll have to front that 9k before the day happens, fyi.

track day

If we can get enough guys & gals to commit we could do a track day as early as March 15

This would be a major undertaking requiring enough drivers to cover the fees and corner workers.

Novice would have to have a coach until they are signed off.

This might be a good way for those who would like to try track driving to give it a go. No pressure, just see what is involved and drive at a comfortable pace.

If you are willing to commit please PM me.
