My understanding is it helps with air flow under the car, help in directing cooling to the back side of the rotors, and directing cooling for the front mount. Otherwise it becomes more turbulent and isn't as effective.
I'm currently replacing all the lower plastic screw POS's with a better clip. Just requires a common to pop it out - MU488006. I purchased a bunch of different clips that were on the Evo and ones from Lowes/Home Depot/car part shops. This is one that goes on the top of your front bumper. It is going to work great - $1.22 a piece from Norco Mits....no more cussing and tearing plastic clips with pliers :-)

Taking it off and putting it back on everytime you need to work on the car becomes a pain. They are not worth having them at all. imo

Meh.. if you are going to keep your car the same way for awhile... i could understand. But when you work on your car off and on every couple weeks/months it really becomes a pita imo

as billy said.

Sorry for not staying on topic - but I do work on the car often enough to find a better solution for those damned plastic screw clips that are a PITA

I don't do timing belts, clutches or change motor internals anymore...my 2g was a different story, but I was also 10 years younger - don't have a lift and I get tired of doing major ****e on my back in the garage even with a creeper...getting old does that to ya.

However I was answering a question the guy had - besides if you do it right the first time you don't need to be working on it every day/week j/k

You can buy better clips from Home Depot. I don't take mine off alot. There are passages that help tranny cooling also. Theirs a few members that have logged 15+ degree difference without it on (meaning it ran hotter). The undertray actually guides air up. I suppose though if you work down their alot I would take that pain in the *** thing off...I just rather leave it on though. Mine is modified for easy access and quick removal...$5 and a dremel do wonders.

Beat me to it. GST and several others logged the difference with them on vs off. For most non-track cars (a good chunk of this forum) though the difference probably isn't harmful.

I don't do that type of work on my car, and it probably gets any kind of work on it done maybe 4 times a year, so i've left mine on. For some dynos i suppose its a pain in the *** too, but most seem to offer a service to take it off and put it back on for a fee so...

the EVO is partick's old EVO...

it has a MYNES exhaust manifold, Robispec Clubsport KW V3 (installed by Robi) so its set up for the wheel combo... Enkie GTC-01's 18x9.5+38 with 275/35/18 Toyo T1Rs. its a great car to drive... much more grip then the s2k. also has other small things, TPMS, tint (thats im going to remove) and i believe an 02 housing...? Patrick is still going to email me a full proper list of what was on the car...

carpenter
i like snowboarding, wrenching, designing, fabricating....
i want to learn to tune this thing while its still stock- quite a feat for a luddite like myself.
no formal motor sports participation as of yet.
i stepped up to the evo a couple years ago from a vw gti.
i thought the evo would make me more responsible
