The shops who do it often enough do it in much less time than it calls for to do it.

It's finally getting time to do mine (75k on stock clutch with 350whp.. not bad) She's not slipping yet, but gettin difficult to put into gear when it's cold, so I know it's time. Bought the ACT clutch and flywheel set up. Just working on getting it installed now.

I've been told that to manually cycle the ACD pump, you turn on the car (not starting) and floor it and it will cycle the pump. Unless I'm deaf, I can't hear my pump cycle. So maybe I'm doing it wrong? :-\

Wow... $550 sounds pretty decent for a clutch job. I might just have to bring the car to you when Im ready for new clutch.

doing it on your back sucks, doing it on the lift still sucks but a lil easier the first time you do it be prepared to take a whole day maybe a day and a half if your slacking off, the second time its a bit faster, the third time youll be like ill just pay someone to do it, here in jersey you can find it cheaper than that

if you've done clutches before you should be able to do it yourself, It will save you some money, but it is a pain in the *** and will take some patience

I have a technique that I think will work, it's kinda similar to how I pulled my eclipse motor out. I just don't know how to do the transfer case part. So what would you guys at English charge for a 6 speed? any difference.

Illtech must have a really bad price on the clutch then!

I will definitely vouch (not that I need to) for English Racing... I dropped it off at 8 a.m. and by 10 the old clutch was out, by 11 the new clutch was bolted up, we broke for lunch which I treated everyone to, and I was on my way back home by 2 p.m. They also did a SS clutch line and broke a DP bolt during the removal which they had to drill out and retap.

My Quote was high because you requested a Twin Plate Exedy. I could sell you a less expensive stage one or OEM clutch, or bring your own clutch and fluid and all you pay is labor.

Book Time from Motor All Data is 9.9 Hours.

We charge around 7.0 hours and the job takes a day to complete.

I have Stage One Exedy, Exedy Flywheels, and Exedy Twin Plate Clutches in stock.

Give me a call if you have any questions. Thanks!

I did mine. It was OK.

The hardest part is getting the transmission out past the lower cross member which it likes to get hung up on. Then on the way back in it is even lamer. You really have to wiggle the transmission in all sorts of ways: up, over, down, over, up, in, down, over etc... etc... You can't just go up and in - at least with the cross member in place.

I used a standard floor jack which allowed for twisting the tranny is lots of ways, but it took 4 tries because the tranny would start to fall off the jack from all the jocking.

I'm obviously not going to skimp on a clutch, I want a clutch that's going to hold up with the build I'm planning on. So with that being said I don't want to substitute for a cheaper clutch and I shouldn't have to. If I can do the work myself, then I will do that.
taking in account that vendors sell items for more than what they pay for them, the best price I've come across for an exedy HD clutch/flywheel etc. still left a difference of $750 for the install (based on your quote) not to mention another 9% for WA tax.
I understand you guys need to stay busy and make money, well, we need to spend our money wisely as a consumer, we shop around and go for the best deal.

That setup is one method I was thinking about with the jack and the board. When I pulled the motor on my eclipse I actually pulled the front wheels and hooked the front end of the car up to my cherry picker. I dropped the car to the floor and set the motor on a furniture dolly. Unbolted from the frame and pulled the car back up high enough to wheel the motor out from under.
Plan on doing similar with the tranny, as above

That makes total sense on the clutch choice, and I agree that you have to spend your money wisely. But please keep in mind that because a website advertises a price, or a Vendor posts a sale of an item, it doesn't mean they have the item readily available. You may be purchasing from a third or fourth party distributor, which for you, the scrutinizing consumer, means long wait times, and unavailable parts. I might charge a few bucks more for a clutch because I have it in stock. If I had to order it for you, I would match or beat any Exedy Dealer's price, and get you the clutch faster....guaranteed. That's how we(independent) stay in business.

Doing the work yourself is definitely a good way to save a buck, but I recommend getting an experienced buddy to lend a hand. If you have a lift at your disposal, use it.

Bottom line is, you requested a clutch installed quote. If you want to price match(which I do every day) give me a call and I would be happy to strike up a deal with you. ILLTech Auto Salon is a vendor on EvolutionM to help NW guys get the parts they need fast, and at a good price. That's my job!

I just had a shop do it for $400. I have done installs on other cars, but after reading its a pain with the EVO $400 seemed like a deal! So far so good, I only have about 150 miles on the new clutch.
