Belt Whine at startup normal(Added Sound Clip)?

Hi,
I picked up a 06 MR SE about 3 weeks ago. In the morning when i start it, I can hear a whining noise which is louder than the engine. After a couple minutes it basically gets a lot quiter to where it blends in more with the engine.

So I took it to Mitsubishi, they replaced like 6 items (Had the car for 8 days!) including the timing belt (twice), tensioner, etc and said that it is fixed. They said the final fix was they used a timing belt for the 8. I can still hear a whine over everything else in the morning, its just not as loud and doesn't sound as strange as before. Is that a normal sound for Evos?

Here is a link to how it sounds, I rev it slightly at the end.

Mine does not whine either.

I'm not sure the Mitsu mechanics in the area know what they're doing. Mine makes a knocking sound, louder when the engine is cold, and progressively quieter over the course of the day if you drive a lot. Took it in, they replaced the timing belt under warranty, and then told me, when that didn't fix it, that they couldn't find what was making the noise. They also told me that I should just keep driving it until it gets louder and they can pinpoint it.

At least my car is unmodded, so my warranty isn't voided. Personally, I think its a rod knock, but meh, we'll see.

I have had water pumps making noise when cold. take the drive belt off and start the car. If it still makes the noise, the problem is in the timing belt area.

Well the car is under warenty and Korum had it for over a week so I would hope they tried that.
Maybe I will record what it sounds like and post it on here. I don't want to bring it back for another week only to find out its normal but it sounds like its not!
I'm new to Evos, but no other car I have driven had a belt whining noise like this before. My srt-4 definately doesn't do it.

Is it a real screeching whine? Did they recently replace the timing, tensioner or balancing belts? If so they could have overtightened the belt, and it can make a loud squeal.

How's your battery Eric? Does it need replacing? I know this sounds weird, but I fixed a jeep one time at work that would squeal like hell during cold startups. Found out the problem was a bad battery that needed replacement. Turns out the belt was slipping due to the alternator trying to turn the belt too fast in order to charge up that bad battery. Belt was tensioned perfectly. Replaced it with a new battery and all the noise went away. I have no idea if this is even related, but won't hurt to check since even they can't figure it out at the moment.

i'll tell you if you have a belt whining noise or not. go out and buy some chalk, wait till tomorrow morning start up your car, open the hood, reach down by the serpentine belts and let the chalk drag along the underside of the belt. If the noise goes away, its the belts. If not, possibley a pulley or tensioner. report back and lmk if that helps or not

It is the same belt as the 9, it might be time to take the car to someone knowledgeable.

Brien Ford/Mitsubishi on Evergreen Way, Everett WA. They seem to be pretty cool so far, straight shooters when it comes to warranty stuff.
