Anyone know how to install an alarm system/remote start?

Title says it, I got pizza and beer for someone that is bored and wants to meet a new Evo owner...

I bought http://www.frys.com/product/6271540

My dad said he may offer to help, but I am not sure if he is up to it, and I have never done anything under the hood on any vehicle.

Just a shot in the dark ... worst comes to worst Ill go pay for install.
Thanks guys
Derek

Unless someone on here has actually done it successfully a few times, I'd take it to a pro. Wiring under the dash is a major PITA, especially if you want to do it right.

I am starting to think that is the best way, the wiring diagram looks like something I have only seen in nightmares...

Here are my options

1) let Frys install the alarm only and not enable remote start, then take it home and try to figure that out (not really excited to try that)...

2) find somewhere else, anyone able to recommend a decent shop? I really hate car toys... Frys wont do remote start or the turbotimer mode due to it not being an auto

Thanks guys

Easiest way is have a professional install it. Then wire the remote start your self. You can pm me if you want but it's real easy. Just follow the alarm instructions and a wiring schematic for your car. There are 3 mayb 4 wires you have to tap into to activate remote start. You will also need a spare programed key with module to go around your ignition. That's what I did and it's real easy. Also recommend wiring up a relay to the clutch switch to de-activate during remote start. That way you keep launch control. So when manually starting you have to push i'n clutch but remote starting you don't. I'm about to rig the safety brake wire( wire that shuts off remote start when e-brake is released) to my shifter to ground out i'n neutral so there won't be a chance of starting the car i'n gear by accident.

What does it not being an auto have to do with it? That's easy to bypass....

Send me the wiring diagram if you can, via pm. I want to see how much is involved.

Ill have to get the diagram info from my dad...

this is the email from my dad about the two of us installing it "Looks VERY complicated. Lots of wire tracing and splicing involved, it just depends on how easy it is to tear everything apart to get to what needs to get to. " He said he found the diagram on the company website i think

Frys said because it is manual they will not do any remote start due to liability...

That sucks. My old CompuStar on my FD had a failsafe. The remote start wouldn't arm unless the car was running when you shut the door and armed the alarm (think turbo timer style running after key removal). This way you couldn't leave it in gear.

since you are in the WA area, a compustar alarm would be best for your manual evo8. they are based in the WA area and you can even add the new compulink. I will not waste time in some other alarm.

well the alarm is usable for manual vehicles, frys just decided they dont want to risk it i guess?

Figured out what I am going to do,

there is no seperate module or part for the turbotimer or the remote start, it is just different settings, and the remote start requires one extra wire be strung to the ebrake, however the wire is included in the standard alarm install anyways for safety, my bet is if i have them install the alarm only, i can then go into set up mode and enable the other features, worse case scenario is ihave to run one cable

I know a few have had to get their remote start done... under the table and won't name shops because of liability. I guess installing remote start on manuals is a no-no in this state?

I was recommened to a few by frys, i just find it odd... that is basically like saying "we wont install this turbo, or tune your car to 500hp because WHAT IF YOU GO FAST AND DIE?" ... how much liabilty is there in installing remote start on a manual, if it doesnt have a failsafe and the owner leaves it in gear then tries to start it... it should be their fault.

Im pretty sure we will be able to rig it after they install the alarm, if you click on the link you can see it is one box there isnt a seperate alarm box, turbo timer, and remote start

I have a remote start and it was set up to require a certain sequence when leaving the car in order to activate the remote start. It makes it so that if the "failsafe" failed or malfunctioned then it will still not drive through the garage door. Just because the wire is hooked up to the Ebrake doesnt mean that it would be in neutral or stop the car from going forward if it was in gear.

The remote start systems that most shops will install on a manual car have a multiple failsafe system ex compustar, clifford etc. That was my experience when I was shopping around.

I think the liability of it is legitamate given that no one likes to take responsibility for their mistakes. I agree it would probably not be the installers fault but oh well.

On a side note I rarely use my remote start haha oh well

Yeah the sequence is something about vehicle put in neutral, ebrake activated then something else in order to have it primed for remote start. I dont forsee my self using it very often but who knows
