CA desert, Northern specifically, is not as interesting as Arizona desert, at least from what I've seen. I agree with NeoGeo, lots of farm land, and lots of desert. When we drive to Reno we ask the same question "who chooses to live here?"

Well the city of Yermo is only a few miles away from Calico GHOST TOWN, so yeah pretty much nothing out there. Unless you have guns, fun to shoot out there.

People don't realize that a lot of California is farmland/desert. That's how it was before everywhere started getting built up and, all the way up the 5, to San Francisco is still just open land. It's kind of nice every once in a while.
