Thumbs up Race Gas in Portland Area???

Does anyone know where I can get some race gas at the pump in the Portland area? Just got a spot on the BMW lapping day on the 29th at PIR and I'm in need of some race gas.

What octane are you looking for and are you opposed to leaded versus unleaded?

You can get 104 octane Sunoco unleaded fuel in Longview (by 5 and 55 gallon increments) or you can go to English Racing if you don't mind leaded fuel (they have VP racing fuel up to 116 octane)...

There are also some places in Portland but I'll wait to hear more about what you want before rambling any further...

Have never run leaded, so not sure what affects that would have on the engine. I'm looking for an octane of 101 to 110. Would rather get it at a pump for I have my own tank. Thanks!

Leaded fuel fowls/ruins O2 sensors and destroys catalyetic converters. Not a good idea to run it in a newer car.

You should get your car tuned to e85 now that you're down south. Bob's and Jays garage sells it at the pumps here, along with the chronic from ER!

Yes, you will hear many conflicting views regarding running leaded fuel. If you want to play it safe, I'd recommend Sunoco 260 GT Plus (104 Octane-Unleaded). Of course, the "safest" bet is to not mix fuels and tune for a full tank of your respective fuel (e.g. 92/104/E85, etc). I got scared away from the mixing fuel game when I'd talk to racing teams that would have engine damage because fuel mixtures weren't blended properly and a big glob of 92 got injected at an inopportune time. You also want to research the chemistry of the fuels you plan on blending to ensure they are close to identical but remember that higher octanes will most likely have different chemical makeup, etc...

I'd recommend getting a dual map tune and run 104 exclusively on track days and 92 when you aren't at the track...but I'm paranoid by nature

Before I switched to E85, I did a lot of calling around and found a distributor in Longview who will sell you the fuel in five gallon drums.

Contact Norm Reitner at Wilcox and Flegel Oil Company. They are the distributor for southern Washington and northern Oregon. They are based in Longview, WA, and have dealers in Portland.

His numbers are:

Mobile 360-508-3068

I'm tuned for 94, but like to put in a few gallons of higher octane 100-110 for track days. Not totally set on E85 yet.

Just switch to E85 if you have a couple stations in Portland that sells it.

Caesar, I do the same thing. I buy MS109 from NW Solvents in Portland. I mix one gallon with 4 gal of 92. I have also used Torco, and bought Toluene for the same reason, Octane boosting.

I'll bring an extra pail of MS109 to the BMW day. You can have it for my price which is $75 a 5 gallon pail. English Racing can sell you leaded race gas cheaper and if you mix it in a 1-4 ratio or higher with pump you won't be putting "too" much lead in the tank. I have run VP110 at a track day and my sensor seems fine. Though I carry a spare

Let us know if you find high octane on a pump, however avoid the high octace AV gas if you can. It contains more lead and burns differently in autos. Works great in plane though.

See you at the track tomorrow.
