Anyone using conventional oil or have?
Thinking about using conventional oil, just because I can get it dirt cheap in 20w50 oil. Anyone here ran it, if so how long do you use it for before changing oil again, thanks!
I certainly wouldn't. One reason is the obvious, the owners manual clearly states synthetic only. For two, conventional oil doesn't protect as well as synthetic (another obvious). For a daily driven car this time of year in WA, I wouldn't run 20w-50 either. Simply too heavy of an oil.
My .02, don't run conventional oil period. Go with a lighter weight full true synthetic that is proven to protect (hint*Amsoil*hint).

I know I've heard from oil reps that you can run conventional if you're changing your oil often. By often I would guess changing every 1k - 2k miles tops. I personally wouldn't risk it, certainly not for any higher mileage than that.
Plus the lower zinc content means higher wear on those fast spinning components (um, turbo).
Seriously thought, there is alot of info on this subject which is just a search away....

I ran the 10w-40 high zinc all summer and loved it. Lifters were quited down quite a bit and the oil was drained out looking almost like it did when it went in.

Was thinking of running 5W-30 or 0W-30 for this oil change...was thinking 5 just because the car isn't struggling at all to start in the morning and 10W -> 0W seems like a big change, halfway point! Think I'd be better off running 10W-30 high zinc over 0W/5W-30? if not, should i go with 0W or stick with 5W like i was thinking?

I appreciate all the replies. But my topic was about if anyone has ran conventional or not. Not about how synthenic is better, I already know that. I like how everyone wants to state their opinions, that are off topic!
Which does answer your question.
