Aftermarket Radio Question

I have found that they already make a single and double DIN faceplate for the Outie Sport, and was considering puting in a double DIN faceplate, amp, small sub, and maybe upgrading the front speakers.

The QUESTION: Has anyone upgraded theirs yet? Are there ANY brands, single or double DIN that will interface with the steeringwheel radio controls? I do not want to lose that feature.

Thanks!
-James

I seem to have found this:

http://www.axxessinterface.com/steer...ntrol_new.aspx

Which says it should work... I also called BestBuy to see if they had done any installs, he said they hadn't yet.

Crutchfield

Crutchfield sells the double-din faceplate and it will usually be 50% off if you order your head unit through them. They also include all wiring adaptors free of charge. Definitely worth it. I have the stock 6-speaker, non-RF stereo and I am initially only adding a bazooka tube until I decide what direction I want to go with the stereo....

I still haven't gotten around to doing the stereo. I won't do it unless I do it right and get a nice touch screen unit, and I just am too cheap to do that lol.

You and me both.
I've gotten the two 15"s, amp, and cap but haven't decided on what headunit I should upgrade to.. Too many choices

Must be rough decisions, decisions!

'bout the OEM touch screen head unit?

I thought about that... But, why would anyone want to pay so much for just a stock touch screen?

This is why I can't bring myself to get a SE model. For the price of the added options in SE, you can get MUCH BETTER aftermarket units.

the SE adds plenty of worthwhile stuff. The heated seats, AWC, automatic S-HID's, and automatic rain sensing wipers are hard to do aftermarket.

For a $2,000 you get HIDs, push button start, auto climate control, 6 speakers and rain sensing wipers. The rain sensing wipers, auto climate control are the only things that are hard to do aftermarket, and it's very hard to integrate remote start/security with fast keys. I can live without auto climate control since I always end up adjusting it manually, and 6 speakers since I'm not an audiophile. The ES also has the AWC selector knob, but if you're not on a tight budget, the SE would be good.

@Wes,
Yeah, if it was Only for the stock upgraded head-unit/stereo system then I would agree with you 100%... However, the SE trim does have so much more features that's not easily upgraded to from aftermarket - exactly as Burtonrider had stated/listed.

Especially having experienced the benefit of Xenon HIDs, I'd never go back to regular halogen.

I just wish so badly that I can choose HIDs, FAST Key & Leather Seats for the ES Trim. Those are the only 3 things I REALLY want.

Which is exactly WHY they don't put those in the ES

I like the auto climate control, but it's not very "intelligent". I wish it at least had dual zones, but oh well.

As for the HID's, I know it's not worth $2k, but the OEM ones on the SE are actually very different than you just upgrading the halogen housings. The "S" in "S-HID" stands for "Super Wide" and there is a light harvester and a reflector under the projector which helps illuminate the edges of your field of vision. I posted pics in the HID/halogen bulb thread just recently, but the S-HID really does give us 180 degrees of lighting, which is AWESOME.

Also, I'm not sure but I THINK that the AWC was ONLY available with the SE trim in '11.

EDIT: Yep, in '11 if you wanted AWC you had to get the SE. Below that is all the options that I got in my SE that did not come in or were not offered in the ES. I removed all of the lines that were standard in all trim levels, like cruise control, spare tire, 12V accessory outlet, etc.
