20 inch rims on Outlander Sport Question
20 inch rims on Outlander Sport Question
I just bought a set of 20 x 9 rims with 40 offset for my RVR (Outlander Sport) without rims. Did a test fit yesterday and have barely enough clearance front and back from the inner struts. I put 3mm wheel spacers on to see if I could get more clearance, but not knowing how it would finally fit when the tires are on, it was really hard to tell. Was thinking of going 245/40/20, but would either 245/35/20 or 245/45/20 have a narrower sectional width? Problem is all different brands and makes of tires have different specs as well.
Advice? or if anyone here has experience putting on this size of rim/tire combo on their car?
Thanks.

A few people have put 20's on, but I'm not sure about 20x9's. That might be a little too wide. I'm sure you can make it work without too much trouble, but not just bolt-on.
Have you checked through the other rim /tire threads to see if there's any relative info?

I too recently bought wheels for our Outlander Sport a little wider than yours, and am researching on tires that will fit well, still have proper turning radius, and of course not throw off the speedometer. Here is an awesome link on how your wheel and tires compare to the OEM wheel/tire combo, showing the variance in mph at 60mph. Input the OEM wheel/tire on the left side, and compare with different sizes on the opposing side. Hope it's helpful, and definitely take pictures!

i am running 18x9's on mine with no problem the only stop is on the rear tires back by the front of the wheels. The frame move in just about an inch, but even with 9 inch wide wheel you will have about 1/2" of clearance if the offset in not a super + offset. You might get into turning issues on the front tires but you wont know till you mock up on jacks and turn each side till you hit the bumpers and see if they rub the plastic inner liners. good luck hope it all works out for you.
Thanks for your valuable input guys. Texas Travisty: You know exactly what I was thinking when I was trying to describe the rear wheel!
I tested again all round by putting both my 3mm spacers to get 6mm and it looks like it will just make it, so to be safe I will go with 5mm spacers for my set up. I don't think I would want to go any wider as it would then require lug extensions.

The frame curves by the back tire you got to get in there and look its tiwards the front of the rear tire.
I was thinking of using a set if 5mm spacers I have as well if I get a wider tire, but was apprehensive about the lug length.
