[Video] Demonstration of MIVEC in the new 4J series engine

Just as previously stated, Mitsubishi has been using the 4J10, 4J11, and 4J12 engines in just about everything not sold in America. Well that all changes with the new 2014 Outlander, that brings the former Japanese-only 4J12 engine with it. This engine goes from a dual over head cam design (DOHC) to a single over head cam design (SOHC) for simpler operation, reduced pumping losses, and lighter weight. Mitsubishi kept its MIVEC control system on the new SOHC engine, and it even adds variable lift technology to the system.

Here's a demonstration of how the technology works. The video is short, so you will have to pause it to see some of the wording (Thats why I added the above picture)

Normal driving = fuel efficient settings
Spirited driving = shifted cam profiles and more valve action, which results in MO' POWAH

I never did pass my applied-physics course.
But, all this talk about oscillating cams & fulcrum give me a much different image(s) in my mind..
