I found some on ebay and I think it will work. I'm wondering if I could pull this off again without opening the headlight housing... Or maybe I'll just replace my led strips with these instead?
Someone take the plunge instead!

But, I think you found the best solution for lighting our headlights - externally - with the strip LEDs.
To "cook" our headlight unit(s) to break the hermetic seal or forceably seperate the lens is not what I would gamble on, JUST to put in some "angel" halos...
Too costly a mistake if you're not able to properly re-seal it.
How about - Just light the underside-edge of our headlights with front firing LEDs (just afix them pointing upwards!)

Yeah, I know.
I'm one of them.. FLF's*
Well, not to the level of some of them hardcore Fanatics who assemble their own driver circuits for the SMCs, or machine their own tubes...
But, I do have a tiny collection of powerful LED flashlights.

Pardon me.. But, it looks like it's just a LED strip with a "frosted" sleeve over it. Am I wrong?
I checked the spacing under our headlight housing and there is just the perfect amount of room for a fiber optic strip under it, but my concern is will it still look good and clean being done outside the housing instead of inside?

That's what I was speculating the ones in the OP were before someone established that they were fiber optic:
Hmmm... I'm skeptical, but not completely opposed to the idea. Do you have any LED strips that you could use to do a mock-up?
Yes, but I don't think it can compare to a fiber optic cable, because it's going to look real ugly with all the individual leds exposed.

It'll probably look like Audi's poor attempt with LEDs originally, like this >

or Worse... What is that!? >

They started to get it right with their A5s... >
