2011 Outlander sports ES & SE

Thinking of buying a used 2011 Outlander sport. I can't decided to get a ES or SE... I tried searching for the difference between the 2 but I couldn't find any info. I'm only getting a FWD. Is there any difference on the exterior other than small rims and fog lights?

Just make sure you DON'T get an USED 2013 Silver SE that's originally from Texas with VERY Low miles (~3k-ish)

But the dealer said it's a smashing deal!

For the features, I would go for the SE, FWD SE's dont appear to go for much more than FWD ES's so long as you skip the navi.

I'll say this: I have the SE AWC, and I LOVE the SE features. The FAST key is very convenient, the rain-sensing wipers are something I'm not sure if I can ever live without again, and the S-HID's are very bright and very wide at night. The fog lamps balance the front end and provide a decent amount of assistive light, the heated seats keep your butt nice and toasty, and the 18" rims look a lot nicer than the 16" (IMHO).

I say the SE is the way to go.

OP,
When considering a Pre-Own.. you might as well get the SE with ALL the features. Because to go with a Bare-Bones unit, you're not going to save that' much no how...

Depending on the mileage, there's only about $100 difference between the two trim levels (and Not in your favor too, if you go towards an ES... ) > For me looking at online listings...

in LA listings >

2011 ES FWD $14,994 w/50,359mi., LINK
or
2011 SE FWD $ 14,888 w/33,791mi, LINK

Great comparison! I just looked up ones in my area and I found that they were all over the board as well, not just for ES/SE, but also for FWD/AWC models. An AWC SE doesn't seem to hold much value over a FWD ES w/ similar mileage (which, as an AWC SE owner, saddens me lol).

On a plus note I guess, they're holding their value pretty well... 2011's with around 50-60 thousand miles are going for $14k-$16 at dealers. That's $5k (~25%) depreciation in 2 years and 55k miles (yes, I know dealers mark-up, but let me have my happy moment!).

Alright guys, I'm in LA... White is the only color I'm really considering.
I was looking at a SE white at 22K mileage for $16K at Glendale but it was sold last week... -_-
So far from what I see the ES and SE price difference is about 1K-2K or more
and I'm not considering anything beyond 20'sK mileage for a 2 year old car.
I'm on a budget so if the difference isn't really that much I'd go with the
cheaper model and I can survive without the features.
So the SE 22K mileage for $16K was sold but I also just found a
23K mileage for $15K but it is a ES(also white).
The price I'm listing at is the internet price, I wonder if I could make
the dealer drop that price even lower. Any tips? Past experience?
Really need this car, I'm moving up from a 2000 Honda Civic EX
and it's really beat up badly, I've been using it for restaurant grocery
shopping(wholesale products + 3 passengers) and my DD.
Really need this newer car....

OP,
You are giving us two completely different mind sets >
1. "White is the only color I'm really considering."
2. I'm on a budget*, AND I Really NEED "another" car..

Then you don't have much in the way of being picky... On color, that should be the least of your concerns.

And, here's a TIP - if you even allow a (use car) dealer to know you're fickle about a " particular color" they will use it against you like stink on cow chips.

So, if the paint on your Civic is faded, peeling, rusting, or all three...Or, if there's mechanical problems - then buddy - You can't be too chosey on much of anything with Pre-Owns, because they are all so varied - Meaning there are no two pre-owns alike and THAT is what dealerships count on when they haggle with you.

Yes, there are more Margins (markup) on used cars and dealers can play ball with you, IF you have something worth the trade. Because that "markup" is their profit, and you know... they don't like anyone messing with their profit.

That's the cold hard truth.

Advise: Make sure you determine how much money you have for down payment and stick with it - Don't let them talk you into putting down more or taking on a higher monthly payments (and/or longer loan terms). Keep it under 36 to 48 months on Used vehicles.

One last thing - I'm curious.. Why are you looking at mini SUVs?

*very tight budget?

Thanks, I won't tell them that white is the only color I want.
I'm looking at this mini SUV because there aren't many out there that I like. Honestly I want a regular 4 door car(Lancer?) but because I'm in the restaurant business
I need something bigger to haul groceries but I also need this
same car to drive around town and I do drive a lot... The mpg on the Outlander sports looks good and I do like the exterior(2011-2012 only).
I'm a awful haggler... I hate buying cars...

Certainly, we are all here to help each other.

I see. That I understand then.

No arguments there. I don't know why Mitsu changed the styling. There was nothing wrong with it.

Well, you in luck. I teach Haggling 101.
First, have you test drove any Outlander Sports? Preferrable new, so you have a solid baseline on how these SUVs drive.

If you're not a good haggler then do as much of the deal online as possible. Of course they try to get you in the door as soon as possible, but many internet salesmen will haggle through email. Some more than others, but I know someone who literally ironed out almost the entire deal via email. She showed up, they finalized everything while she did the test drive, and she basically signed the paperwork and left. Finance term, interest rate, vehicle price, and everything was done through email. I think she called them to do the credit stuff though, didn't want to send the SSN over email.
