Dipped my side markers. yay or nay???

So like most everyone with an OS I'm not a big fan of the stock side markers and since I wont be ordering the smoked led ones for another month or so I dipped mine. What do you all think??? Yes. No. Maybe???

Honestly. Barely which makes me slightly nervous about the whole thing. I do like the way the black and silver go together though.

You are not supposed to DIP lights.... its not transparent. get niteshades or one of the other various lens tinting products available.
lets put it this way, if you get into accident and its because noone could see your side marker blink, wheter its your fault or not, they can bring it up in a lawsuit and you can be found liable for everything.

a light smoke works fine. mine have 2 coats of niteshades on it, which I have used in the passed and they light up fine and can be seen well. My tails are about to be wrapped in a med grey vinyl that I have used in the past. My third brake light is already done. Waiting for my rear fog to show up to do it with the tails as well. with the vinyl its removeable!

Honestly I had a can of dip laying around and hate those side markers and thought what the hell? like I said before though I'm not sold on the idea just because you can barely see the light blinking. Now of course its the middle of the day but I don't really see it being bright enough at night anyway. I just thought I would give it a try and throw it out there to see what people thought? Like I said before I like the way the black and silver look but not at the risk of being liable if something happens. Luckily it just plasti-dip and will peel off easily. For now it looks like I'll just have to wait until next month to get my smoked led markers.

Interesting..
But, like SicLanEvo stated, to cover the entire marker in Dip... not a cool idea.

Perhaps you can mask off a design on the marker before Dipping.
Something like chevrons >>> or /// to allow the OEM to shine through.

That way you can have darken OEM markers and still be legal

Use a Lens tinting spray then. I have done it on mine and love the look. but I have done all my cars in the past 15 years with it for sidemarkers and a couple sets of taillights. I have switched to vinyl on my last car because it comes off and its even. I wrap lights pretty often. I havent spent much time on the OS thought besides my factory DRL's and fogs in yellow. Finding the right vinyl for the job took me some time but now i can wrap for other people.

I also like the idea of doing a design or pattern with the dip though.

Also sorry for sounding harsh in anyway, but I have been into the car scene show, race, and street for a long time now and sometimes trends and fads go to far.... lol Dont get me started on the stance and most of the euro crowd.

I don't think brianbrase is that thin skinned.
You were just stating some possible outcomes with Dipping Federally required automotive lights, so it's all good info.

SicLanEvo has a good point on the being liable "IF" proven it was the cause of an accident, but remember, they have to prove it. Chances are, you'll have more issues on your hand if that went to court.

Coming from just getting the smoked LED's, I can't imagine any light emitting through dip. Like mentioned in the other thread, I would also recommend VHT, Nightshade, etc.

Aesthetics-wise, well they look good to me.

Let's be realistic though people. Millions of people have been driving with cars not having to rely on side markers and was only in recent years where side markers in the USA, have become as part of the design. It would make my day if people actually used their turn signals BEFORE making the turn, if using them at all.

No doubt about that!
They do look good. And, would be great for an auto show!

Well, yes.. They do have to prove it First... However, that only means an accident has already occurred.

Hopefully, we (as responsible folks/drivers) ALL Want to prevent such a thing from happening in the first place! And, one small & simple step is to discourage any kind of MODS (no matter how trivial) taken from current AND future forum members from attempting.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here.. But, just want to throw it out there.
Be safe on the roads & highways - Accidents Suck.

I dont think he is either, but some people dont take well to just putting it out there. So just to be on the safe side. I owned a gensis coupe and you want to talk about a ridiculous whiny group of car owners..... I won a couple shows with mine, and i liked it but overall I missed my evo, needed more space for my big dog and i couldnt stand the gen coupe crowd.... they are still ridiculous to deal with for getting parts from me. so annoying end rant....

its all good . My feelings are not hurt. I posted those pictures to get honest opinions on it so thanks everyone. Truthfully I wasn't sold on them and peeled them later in the day. Although they matched with the silver well they just didn't allow enough light through. I'll just be getting the smoked evo leds later this month so I can wait.

so far I love this forum. The wife and I are a mitsubishi family so I was glad to find a place I could get ideas for her lancer and my os. Mitsubishi owners have been honest and helpful.
