2WD and 4WD Auto = Same MPG?
2WD and 4WD Auto = Same MPG?
Hey guys,
So I have a 2014 4WD SE and have been calculating my gas mileage lately...
Few things I've noticed:
This is in Oregon so we have ethanol mixed into our gas. The ~25mpg is with relatively little time spent on the freeway, and plenty of stop and go traffic, AC on all the time, so I can't complain. I don't understand why driving in 2WD does not return better MPG than 4WD, however. What kind of difference should I be expecting? Could this indicate any kind of issue?
Thanks for your opinions!

Few things I've noticed:
- Car's computer seems to underestimate MPG more often than not
- 4WD Auto and 2WD are returning me almost the exact same MPG, ~25.5

Welcome to the forum.
Don't even sweat the MPGs right now.
How many miles do you have currently on the ODO?
Actually unless you have racked up more than 3,500 miles (for the CVT to break-in properly) don't worry too much.
>> The main thing here to realize is that FWD & 4WD AUTO, in 4WD Auto mode it allows for mostly FWD activation and ONLY kicks in the rear wheels when it detects the need.
As you've witnessed getting 25MPG right now in Stop&Go traffic w/AC on most of the time and hardly any Highway driving in - is doing quite good for "off the dealer lot" efficiency.
(Also, keep in mind, with our AWD - we are dragging around about 200lb of extra weight compared to an only FWD SE.)
