Exclamation Check your Lower Engine Mounts

Okay, guys & gals need a favor..

I was just under my vehicle checking on if there is oil leaks (from my DIY oil change from yesterday) and I noticed this >

I wasn't able to reach around to see the other side... SO tell me if this is normal design of the "vulcanized portion of the mount".

Is this "crack / rip" suppose to be there?
Can anyone take a peek at their lower engine mount and confirm for me.
Thank you in advance.

Some more pics >

Close-up:

This mount is at the bottom of the engine next to the oil filter and behind the driver side radiator fan.

yikes, well on the brighter side you can now see if the stock or upgraded EVOX front motor mount will work on our vehicle i have heard that it will.... you could either get on the EVOM forums and look at EVOX part outs for a motor mount, get on ebay and try to find the OEM replacement for really cheap. just a thought, not i need to check mine...ugh

i checked on the mitsubishi parts website and the EVOX Engine Trans front mount is
part# MN184347
the Outlander sport is
part#MN184355

the diagram is identical as far as what they look like and bolt up so i can only amagine that the insert is the difference, probably a high grade and strength. maybe finding a sold motor mount insert for the evo X for cheat on ebay might be the way to go.

just a thought, i might even try this myself, i am kind of affraid to get under the O.S. right now and peek at it because i do drive pretty hard...

So, doctor is this your professional diagnosis...

Would a squirt of JB Weld properly fix that V gap in your opinion?

TT,
Thanks for checking on the part#'s for me.
That's a great help.

I could definitely consider a beefier EVO X mount after seeing our stock wimpy mount's condition with so few miles. It was quite concerning when I first noticed it.

But, quite honestly EVEN if my wife drive like Danica Patrick in our O.S., there just isn't enough power (or torque) in this vehicle to cause THAT kind of rip/tear with Only 26K on ODO..

And, Neither she nor I drift our O.Sport

I'm not even going to touch on the "squirting into a V gap" topic

Regarding the actual issue, I seriously hope that your mount is just an anomaly, not a common issue, but I'll definitely try to take a peak at it at some point.

If you do decide to do the aftermarket mount, or even the OEM EVOX mount, you should talk with your dealer about still doing the labor under warranty, then just provide them with the part. Some dealers will, some won't, but it's worth a shot!

You, sir have a very dirty mind.
I really was going to shove a load of epoxy into that crack.

By now.. We all should know better > to not take anything for granted or to blow it off as an anomaly. ESPECIALLY on an engine mount.

Please. Check your mounts!
I'm hoping to schedule an appointment for this Saturday to have the dealer look at it.

I will keep your suggestion in mind regarding labor portion of the warranty. I properly will go with an EVO X mount instead of another stock OS unit.
(I DO NOT want to have to deal/worry about this again in 26,000 miles or sooner. Who know when that rip occurred...)

From your pics it doesn't look like a crack/rip or tear. I worked with Mitsubishi mounts before. Just looks like excess rubber from a part of the mount that's recessed. You can check it by pulling it back with a hook and see if it's solid behind it. That would give you insight for sure. It is definitely early to start changing those. LOL.

just picked up a lower engine mount from and EVOX for $8.00, the guy is being cool and just having me pay the shipping to my house. I have been going through the part out page on the EVOX and lancer sections to see what kind of good deals I can get from EVOM guys/gals and it is so much better than Ebay or second hand sites, prices are better and people are more helpful.
When I get it I will see if it will bolt up, and if not then I will see if the centers can be swapped out, hopefully it will just bolt up.

Wow, that's a fantastic deal!

Okay, please do and let me know if it'll fit.

I didn't have time last weekend to drop by the dealership to have them look at it.
Hopefully, it's like what jostnyc said...
BUT, knowing what we know (ie, failed window seals and now bad engine-accessory belts) I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm in the...that mount is probably ok boat. As stated it looks like excess rubber from the molding. For anyone who cares image search "Anchor motor mounts" you'll see a lot of mounts with similar crevices or gaps.

Of course the dealer will tell you for sure if it's junk. No need to risk it.

These high torque motors may just be tearing them up

Alright guys and gals..
It was just a false alarm on my part.
Having never seen/studied an engine mount up close before, it just "looked" bad, to me.

I brought it to the dealership today and they put it on a lift to see what I saw and they just happen to have another similar model AWD SE in the next bay. They/I was able to look and confirm that the mounts are just like that from the factory > excessive material left over from the molding process..

I actually poked and pulled at it on both vehicles and it's just loose rubber.

Sorry for the false alarm fellas.
