Must hesitate before shifting in 2nd?

2014 RVR 5spd.

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue? When shifting from 1st to 2nd I have to hold it in N for probably a good half second before shifting into 2nd gear otherwise I get little grind. Just wondering if there's a big slow syncro in our tranny's or something.

Clutch dragging/not releasing properly will cause this issue also. Check/clear that first.

It may be a Mitsu tranny thing. My 08 Lancer GTS 5 speed does the same thing. If I get the rpms in just the right spot and align the planets it won't grind.
It's not quite that bad, I think the main thing is don't rush pulling it out of 1st gear. Make sure the clutch is fully depressed before coming out of 1st.

I have an issue when accelerating from 1st to second the shifter tends to pop out of 1st rather than slide out when im giving it the gusto.

Yep, mine will do that also if I'm driving "spiritedly." However that's because I'm pulling it out of gear too soon. Make sure you have the clutch in fully before pulling it out of first.
