Well, you are determined..
Talk about hacking a mod.

Good that you got it to fit, finally

just to update anyone that is skeptical on buying one of these. I just bought one for my 2015 os and installed it without any issues with fitment.

Got one installed on Friday. Turns out they had to tap 3 of the 4 holes as my car is a 2011 and there was a some corrosion. Took them close to 90 minutes to do it all. Glad I did not try a home install! 4 bolts and 15 minutes my eye! LOL Any way, total cost installed was $252 CAD (about $208 US) Decent.

I pulled a 5x9 trailer with 20 2x6 10ft boards 2 sheets of plywood and a very heavy tiller with mine last week. Not sure what the weight was but it didnt struggle. my mpg came out to 20mpg for the day for about 50 miles of pulling. The curt seemed very sturdy and did its jobs

I'll use my hitch only for a bike rack ( http://northshoreracks.com/ ) but it is nice to know that you could haul a few things in a small utility trailer. I travel to Europe a bunch and am shocked at how much weight the Euros carry with their little cars.

I know you were thinking about cutting into the rear doorhandle doohickey and adding lights. I think Im going to order a light to add into my hitch that runs off the trailer harness. I do believe that will work great for extra light. I think there are many different versions to choose from
